Erm... it's however much your standard betting unit is?

Different people have different bankroll management systems for sports betting (and a lot of people have none at all), for me one unit is about 2% of my sports betting bankroll.

People talk in units because it makes it easier to compare apples with apples - somebody could say they've won $2,000 on the season betting sports, and another person could say they've won $200. But if the first person is betting $1,000 each time, and the second person is only betting $10 each time, you'd probably argue that the second person is the more "successful" sports bettor... even though they haven't won as much money in total.

i think people say the unit deal so they dont declare what they are betting in case they lose =) to me a unit is 100 bucks or 1 unit per 10 dollars if you bet on a smaller scale . There is a huge difference to winning on a small bet to a large one ,even to be willing to place it so i wouldnt compare it that way myself. Its like with poker if you spend to much on a buy in when not ready to play your game regardless of the amount spent ,you shouldnt be in there cause you aint winning ,same is true in handicapping, you wont think the best bet oppurtunity out and even if you do often you wont place it because of the amount difference ,so i would move up when you notice the amount doesnt effect your decision making so much, because often it can or will if you are being honest about it .

So full disclosure, I haven't followed college football at all really this season - but getting in on some prop betting degeneracy for the championship game:

Deshaun Watson under 36.5 pass attempts @ 1.87
Wayne Gallman over 69.5 rushing yards @ 2.00
Artavis Scott under 63.5 receiving yards @ 1.87
Jake Coker under 218.5 passing yards @ 2.00
Jake Coker under 19.5 completions @ 1.87
ArDarius Stewart under 47.5 receiving yards @ 1.91
Calvin Ridley under 90.5 receiving yards @ 1.80

Coker passing yards for a half unit, everything else for a quarter unit.

Also on Bama-6.5 because Massey Peabody.

Point is if you're practising proper bankroll management, and you've got a track record of winning results, then the amount you're playing for shouldn't matter at all.

Sports betting has the added advantage that as you move up in stakes the actual handicapping process doesn't get any harder (unlike poker, where the competition gets better the higher you play). Beyond a certain point you might have trouble finding enough sports betting action at the limits you want to place bets at, which is a different kind of challenge, but the actual handicapping process is theoretically the same.
