My best advice (feel free to take it or leave it), shorten your bets. Those 7 leg parlays look wonderful, even with the teasers. But I'd rather risk 20 to win 45 on 3 teams, then risk 20 to win 160 on 7 teams. That's my plan, and once I get $100 profit, I will be risking the $100 on a 3 team teaser in hopes to bink a 'big one'. Payouts are less, but a lot more easier to win.

Hope your luck turns around in week 2 bro.

coming with a different strategy this week. i was just feeling so high on stupid patriots and colts and since i was up pretty nice i went crazy. this week i'm bringing it down back to earth. still if i can hit tonight, i'll be right back where i started @ $500. otherwise, $200.

I don't know a whole lot about NFL but after reading a few supposed "expert" commentaries my picks for Week 1 were:

San Fran to win (@ $1.44)
Carolina +5.5 (@ $1.70)
Chicago -3.5 (@ $2.14)
Indianapolis to win (@ $1.23)
Philly +3.5 (@ $1.87)
Houston -4.5 (@ $1.94)

Showed a profit after the first four games (half point saved me on Carolina, screwed me on Chicago :p ), fingers crossed on Philly and Houston today.

Looks good Oz. If you every have some questions about future bets, don't hesitate to pick us 'experts' brains as well (I sure use that term loosely now don't I). :D

So far up close to $50 in week 1 btw.
Because variance doesn't exist.

Teasers are even worse btw, unless you can find a casino that will let you do Wong teases.

Will do :)

Houston's epic comeback wasn't quite epic enough, unfortunately, so my picks would've made a 0.24 unit profit on the week.

Can anyone explain to me what "teasers" and "parlays" are, BTW? Sports betting terminology must be different over here (I assume a parlay is what we call a "multi", for example, but not sure)

No problem Oz.

Parlays: They're a series of multiple bets, or "legs", that are tied up into one monetary wager. For example, you could bet on the Over for 3 games, and parlay them together risking $5. For you to win that wager, ALL 3 of those games would have to make the Over, much like you bet. The payouts for these are much more, due to the fact all the stars need to align for you to win. If you look on over to my thread, this past week I placed a $1 parlay on like 7 or so games. It was just for giggles, but the payout would have been $92 or something like that.

Teasers: These are what I've recently discovered and have grown to love. It is a variation of a Parlay bet, but with a twist, or 'tease' if you will. On some, you have the option to 'tease' points back towards your bet, in your favor. Sticking with the same example as above, lets say the 3 overs you were looking to bet on were OVER 42, OVER 48, and OVER 51. If they gave you the 'teaser' bet option of +10 points, seeing how you were betting the 'over' on them all, they would adjust it by subtracting 10 points from those overs making it easier to win. The new totals would be OVER 32, OVER 38, and OVER 41. Unfortunately, the pay is much less, typically when you bet a 10 point teaser, youre looking at a 0.94 payout on the 1.00 you bet, meaning for every $1 you bet, you will win only 0.94 back.

If you're betting on Bovada, you can play with these option prior to making the bet. Just put them in your bet slip, play with the drop down menus, and see what types of options it gives you. As long as you don't click "Place my Bet", you should be fine!

i'd have to disagree. that game is going to be close one. i actually like buffalo. they played really tough at home last week and i would 100% take them with a 7pt teaser and would even consider them ATS.

OZ: parlays simply mean you're asking more than 1 thing to happen and everything has to happen for you to win as compared to a straight (single) bet.

there are different kinds of parlays like teasers, if bets and round robins.

teasers means you can "tease" the points to help you with what you are picking. say you want the over 40. well the minimum tease is 6pts. now you're betting for over 34 instead of 40. you "bought" 6 pts. the odds go down vs a 2 team parlay.

teasers can range (on bovada) from 6, 7, 10 or 13pts. obviously changing a spread by 13pts makes them "easier" to win. the downside is you HAVE to do 4 team teasers to have the 13pt option. you can do a 3 team teaser for 10pts max. these are called sweetheart teasers. you can only use them in football and basketball. odds on a 4 team teaser would be like $100 wins $90. so if you want to make a big "safe" bet, this is how you would do it. if you push, apparently it's a win on bovada but i think some sites count a push as a loss so read the fine print.

if bets are simply straight bets in an order of stacking. if you ever programmed anything, you already know about if statements. basically you're saying, if X team wins roll those winnings into Y team. you can make them as long as you want and they just stack on each other. i'd have to look but i think you get some money even if the future ifs lose, as long as the 1st one wins. i think

round robin bets are when you take a parlay and split it into a bunch of smaller parlays. this reminds me betting on dogs or horses when you do a "box" trifecta. you're basically betting that if you have W, X, Y, Z parlayed, in a round robin you'll have W-X, W-Y, W-Z, X-Y, X-Z, Y-Z, all split into separate parlays for $X. so instead of doing 1 $5 parlay, you have to wager $30 cause you are doing 6 $5 parlays really. this gives you a better chance to win but they are expensive, like horse racing.

i hope that was comprehensive enough

Please, please, please click the link in my signature. I know it's just a month's time (small sample), and my winnings are primarily through football, but they are significant none the less.

Isn't your statement a bit hypocritical from our stand point?? :)

I had $42 in rakeback at the casino I go to in Vegas good for sports bets. I laid it all on the Panthers to win the NFC. Payout is $1050.00

Goooooo Panthers!!!!!!
after watching week 1 against seattle i think you have an awesome pick. great defence and coulda beat a very good team if not for some drops and costly mistakes. i really think you got a good longshot here. good luck with it

Thanks for the info guys - seems it was just a terminology difference, parlays are exactly the same as what we call "multi" bets over here.

Am i insane for thinking of betting the Jets tonite?

The NY Jets are +11.5 tonight, i never thought i would ever contemplate betting the Jets, especially against the Pats. However, Jets D seems able to contain Brady, and now he has no real weapons. Am i insane for thinking of taking the Jets and the 11.5 tonite? PLEASE, someone talk me out of this!

11.5 is a LOT of points for an NFL game. If the Jets had any offense I'd be tempted but they don't so I won't.
