I hate to say it, but I think the Pats win this one.
Last time Denver won the Super Bowl they had to beat the Patriots in the AFC championship game. If any of you watched that you might have noticed something. Tom Brady actually looked confused on occasion and threw two interceptions. What does that have to do with the Rams Pats game you ask ? Wade Phillips. DC for Denver now DC for the Rams. Rams by 5
I've got nothing but respect for Wade Phillips, both as a DC and for his social media skills. Legend, one of the best there is.
That said...
That Denver team that crushed Brady's soul was probably a lot more talented than this Rams defense. Yes the Rams have Aaron Donald and some other good players, but that Denver team was stacked top to bottom and front to back. They were the #1 ranked overall defense per DVOA that year, the #1 pass defense (also per DVOA, with daylight back to second place), and the #4 ranked rush defense too just for the lulz.
The Rams this year are the #19 ranked defense. #9 against the pass, so that's not bad, but #28 against the run. Wade Phillips is very good, but he's not working with the same tools this year that he's had in the past.
I hate both these teams. I really don't want to see the Pat's win it yet again. But if the Rams win, their super bowl win will have an asterisk mark over it *. Because we all know that Saints should be in it and not Rams. Terrible how blown calls can make these games not fun to watch and send the wrong team to the Bowl. Two refs right there and they still can't make the right call. A call that is game changing, career changing, ....life changing call!
While I kind of agree about the asterisk, I'm pretty much over it at this stage. And I'm saying that as a Saints fan.
