I went to my first Met game of the year. And it was incredibly disappointing. I was talking with my friend who is also a Met fan about how it felt like the season was already over.

I know I'm being silly, and the season is still young, but it can get old fast, especially with the stupid kind of mistakes the Mets were making on the field.

It's one thing to get outplayed because the other team had a hot night. The Mets hurt themselves by making stupid errors that gave the Rockies an extra 3-4 runs.

How about my Indians starting 8-2? I'm surprised that they have played so well to start the year, given their infamous slow starts the past several years. Granted, they've beat up the Red Sox and Mariners, but it doesn't take much for a team to be on a roll the whole year.

I think the pirates have some nice young talent. I know they are not going to have a winning record. But I think they won't finish in the basement like the last couple years. Having a .500 record would be awesome but unlikely. Going to a pirate game next Sunday with the kids should be fun.

I really like the young players on both the Indians and Pirates, especially on offense. Where I feel it's going to be tough for both clubs to keep it up is pitching wise, as their inexperience is going to catch up to them. If either club is able to top 81 wins this season I would have to think that's considered a success for them.

The biggest surprise to me is both Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Baltimore showing up to play this season. Dramatic improvement from previous years performance.

Its not really looking too good for them now... they are on a 6 game losing streak.

My Rays are streaking the opposite direction. 5 wins in a row! Of course they have been playing the Twins and the Red Sox!

Pirates are on fire tonight in cincy. They have 14 hits already going into the top of the 7th. Pirates are doing great on the road so far. Let's hope they can keep it up and make some noise this year.

Red Sox tanked in Oakland last night but they always do badly on the West Coast.

So, I just ordered my tix for two Rochester Red Wings vs Pawtucket Red Sox games; July 4th, 6 tix 5th row behind the dugout with fireworks after. The other game is Wed Aug 31st,2 tix same section, 4th row.

Red Wings play in Frontier Field which is a lovely venue for baseball.

Tabata has looked really impressive for the Pirates. They have a reallly talented young squad.

The Mets can't even beat the Astros. Sigh.

The pirates have been doing so good on the road. This Florida trip isn't going so good. Shut out 6-0 yesterday and getting shut out again 6-0 in the 4th tonight.

Commissioner Bud Selig has announced that MLB will take over the Dodgers' financial operations from Frank McCourt. Selig "will appoint a representative to oversee all aspects of the business and the day-to-day operations of the Dodgers."

What do you guys think?
-I say this is BS, Selig has a secret agenda with the Dodgers, he doesn't like the owner and is trying to run him out of LA, because that's the only explanation I can find that MLB disinclined to grant McCourt's request for approval of a TV deal with Fox that might have allowed him to retain control of the Dodgers. Looks like Selig's love went to Queens and stayed there!!

Jho, Fellow Mets fans here. With Bay back do you think we can keep it close to .500 ball this season?

I am fearing a cellar dweller type season. We need ALOT of pitching help and a second baseman.

Hey Lenny, i always love meeting another mets fan!

I was completely expecting a low ceiling season (~75 wins) after the Colorado series. But now that we got Bay back, the chemistry on the team is completely different. The lineup has gotten even BETTER if you can believe it (they were already averaging close to 5 runs before Bay, now it's clicking even better) and they are more righty-lefty balanced with Bay's powerful bat (he looks a LOT better so far in small sample size in his comfort zone compared to last year.

Also our starters are pitching better, they couldn't stay that crappy, though they're not as good as they are pitching now, particularly Dillon Gee, he's going to struggle once he gets to his 2nd or 3rd time pitching against teams that haven't seen him yet.

But I really see the bullpen developments as a VERY positive thing. We got rid of Boyer who sucked, and Parnell being on the DL is going to be a blessing in disguise because honestly he just has heat but cannot handle 8th inning duties. With Beato and Izzy handling setup duties and K-Rod in the 9th, our bullpen is setting up to be really consistent.

I'm a lot more hopeful now. I don't expect to push past 85 wins, but I definitely see the squad currently as-is as being a competitive team.

3 in a row now since Bay's return. Nice! I definitely think we can put up a few runs with this lineup. (Hopefully Pagan will come back soon and regain last years form). Our pitching staff is crap in my opinion so we need to score and play great D. If we can play .500 ball and battle for 2nd in the division I will be pleasantly surprised.

Nice to see the Mets out with the broomsticks instead of being the ones being swept.

Now we have to play teams who are better than the Diamondbacks, let's see how they fare. Though it was encouraging to see because the Mets always struggle against the D-backs.

Mets' financial liabilities are around $625 million.

Just how deep in the hole is the troubled franchise of the New York Mets?
As owners now shop a 49% stake in the team, it's been widely reported that the franchise has around $430 million in bank debt. But a potential investor who spoke to Fortune on condition of anonymity points out that the team's liabilities are closer to $625 million, from a buyer's perspective.

Jho, as our Mets Insider, why didn't you tell me that the Mets are selling 49% instead of the 20-25% the Wilpons told us a while back. I think this is worst than expected.

It bothers me every time I read something like this, why? Because the Mets can continue operations through Loans but the Dodgers CAN'T.

This is news to me, I didn't realize the Wilpons were selling such a large % stake of the team. To be fair the Yankees' debt is like 1.5+ billion, it all depends on the revenue and earning power of the team. The Wilpons would have been fine except for the stupid Madoff mess (which I still think is mostly their fault).

And the biggest reason the Mets can get away with this is because the Wilpons are bff with Selig. Selig will give the Mets EVERY chance to come back and recover.

But back to the field news: the Mets had the best game in over a year. Check out this stat:

It was the first time in more than 19 months the Mets trailed on the road in the ninth and rallied to win, according to STATS LLC. The previous time was Sept. 25, 2009, when they scored twice in the ninth to win 6-5 at Florida.

I really hope they can complete the 2nd straight sweep tonight, just 2 games under .500 now!
