I think we would (or should) be thankful if they all cancelled given the global state of emergency. I suppose we could say it was a good move on the part of the NBA, FIFA, MLB, MLS, etc. however, all of these clubs or associations are not worldwide sports competition. So, I am surmising the reason Canada (and it could have been any other country for that matter) was mentioned was due to making the announcement first for one of the biggest global sporting events. Sound right?!

Shouldn't they be wanting to protect their athletes? Their coaches? The families of both? And all of the other people who are involved to help make an event like this possible???

To me it seems like you have some indifference towards canada being recognized for their decision. If so, why? (maybe it was a good example for some others to follow).

My condolences to all the athletes who have put in so much time & effort in hopes of peaking for this major event in their lives. It is a massive commitment & in many (most?) cases it can only be done once. It's not always possible for someone to commit so much time and then be able to do that AGAIN. ... And to still be able to perform at that level

All of us in this difficult time should protect our families, friends and relatives. And Canadians are also great. All well done. But for starters, they could turn to the organizing committee with the question of canceling the Olympic Games and only then make a decision.

Japan does not want to cancel the Olympic games in Tokyo. A lot of costs and need a profit despite the pandemic. I support the country of Canada and hope that all countries will make a similar decision for the benefit of the health of the planet's inhabitants.
