Khan Academy did a mathematical analysis about the effect of inflating a ball at room temperature and then playing 25 degrees cooler and came to the conclusion that temperature alone was within 2 per cent of the difference. They concluded that it was too close to blame the Patriots for intentional deflation.

Wonder what they are doing with the donation they received from the Patriots? ;)

That is a load of crap - the other's team's balls would have been the same if so.

...one has to wonder that, even more than the most recent scandal, if the problem is actually the leadership of Roger Goodell.

Oh I don't think one has to wonder about that... his leadership is definitely a mess.

Personally, I'm still amazed that the League MVP told the press he likes to inflate his footballs OVER the maximum allowed and nobody seems to care.

Also a question: is it confirmed that the officials actually use a pressure gauge when they test all 12 balls before the game, or did they just give them a quick squeeze like they're checking for a ripe avocado and then move on? Because given how little people cared about this issue (again: TV commentators were talking about others teams potentially breaking this rule earlier in the playoffs and nobody cared) I could totally believe they were just giving them a quick squeeze and moving on...

Well if they didn't use a pressure gauge before the Colts game that just shows incompetence of the Refs and the Commissioner since they planned on checking the balls at half time.. (before the game started)

The main difference with Aaron Rodgers saying he tried to over inflate the balls is that he tires to get them passed the inspection over inflated, this is on the referees.

Now if Aaron Rodgers or the Packers were to sneak around with the balls after inspection and air them up this would clearly need to be penalized..

Aaron Rodgers says he hates when the refs deflate the balls on him so they obviously check them (at least sometimes) if they are deflating his over inflated balls..

If the Patriots tried to sneak under inflated balls passed the refs then I don't think it's as big of a deal then once they passed inspection deflating them.. This is what they are being accused of doing.

Also deflating seems worse then over inflating even if they both are cheating according to the rules lol

Sure, but I'm just saying: the week prior, everyone thought the amount of air a football had in it was kind of a joke. Nobody cared, and it was clearly an issue neither the league nor its fans took very seriously.

I understand how the Pats recent history means people don't give them a pass on this. But when you can award the league MVP to a guy who admits to attempting the exact same thing...

Incidentally, the Rodgers / Green Bay "try to get it past the refs" story lends credence to the idea that the officials probably are just giving the balls a squeeze instead of using a pressure gauge. I mean how else would they have an expectation of the balls ever getting through otherwise? :p
