What do you think of this deal? The Raiders gave up what could basically be 2 1st round picks for him - that was a lot to give up.

It is a lot to give up for a has been when their team doesn't have much going in the passing game as it is. It would be one thing if they were able to keep Zach Miller, but their team didn't need to give up that much for a QB whose main job is to make sure Darren McFadden gets the ball. It's not like Palmer is a sure thing vs the QB they could have drafted next year... and now they have almost no draft picks with which to work to improve their team. Puzzling move considering the Bengals were looking at getting nothing for him. That's the Raiders for you.

Don't know....the Raiders are in it at 4-2 and I think they had to move fast to have a chance at the play-offs. With a bye week they now have a week and a half to practice before their next game.

Palmer was good for most of his time at Cincinatti, without having much of a team around him.

I guess we'll know if it was a good trade if they make the play-offs or not....

I know alot of people like to go by recent stats I go by whole career he is proven. Also he wasn't committed to playing for the Bengals that is why he retired until another team finally got him.

hes not worth as much as the raiders gave up for him imo. but as a broncos fan im actually happy to see this trade, being that losing 2 1st rounders will hurt there growth as a team and obv this season doesnt matter for the broncos

Its the right move for the Raiders, for what is out there to take. I really wish the Vikes would of traded McNabb to them but Im happy to hear he will NOT be starting next week.

It's a lot for a guy who probably isn't even in playing shape right now.

Only time will tell as to whether bringing him to Oakland was the right move to make. There weren't a lot of options out there, especially since Garrard has surgery coming - that would have been a much smarter move.

Either way, however, they're giving up way too much for Palmer. It's pretty hard to believe they couldn't have gotten him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick - how Cincy got one, and maybe two, first rounders is beyond me.

I can tell you how....seriously... Mike Brown is not a great football mind or owner, but when it comes to negotiations, he is a tough SOB. He has Hamilton County(where Cincinnati is located) over a barrel on the stadium lease.. .the county is responsible for so much upkeep, and upgrade on the stadium, it would blow your mind. If Mike Brown senses your desperate(Hamilton County wanting to keep the Bengals 10 years ago or the Raiders needing a QB this year), he is unwavering in his demands. ... He will get what he wants and you will walk away thinking how lucky you are to have gotten what you did from the deal...... He is that good. I mean he is a lawyer by trade after all lol!

Yeah, the Raiders paid a lot, but it was a seller's market. Sadly, at the other end of the best QB option out there was Mike Brown, who is always bound and determined to not budge. Really, can you think of a better option out there? Wake up and smell Kyle F*****g Boller. Ewww that smell. They're 4-2 in their crappy (yay for them) division, as good a start as my recent memory can recall, and they wanna win NOW. Age 31 is not an issue at QB if healthy. The more experience the better, and he can easily have at LEAST another 5 years in the tank. He performed well (over 4,000 yds in '09, or was that last year???) despite their losing ways.

Palmer wasn't the only one who wanted out of that ill-managed anarchy. Personally, I think it was a mistake putting T.O. and Ocho together, then putting up with their reality TV distractions. Look at Pacman Jones http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/10/pacman-back-in-handcuffs/
Jerome Simpson http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...-of-bengals-simpson-a-pot-distribution-center
Then Cedric Benson, who just got out of a 3 game suspension
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...threegame-suspension-reduced-to-one-game-fine These are not bit players on the team, but there are a couple others, too. They can't stay out of trouble, like teens gone wild. You don't see that anywhere else. Can you imagine in your wildest dreams chit like this going on in New England!?!?? But I digress. lol

With the lockout, he's not THAT far behind a lot of QBs either finally getting their rookie starts, or moved to a new team. And a perfect situation in terms of 1) timing, as they have a bye week 8, and 2) he can be eased in with their solid running game.
Gesshoo, I heard Palmer will be the starter THIS week, that's right, in 3 days. And Jamesdabear, Zach Miller was a great loss, but we haven't seen what Jacoby Ford can do in the passing game vs. returns/special teams duty, and rookie Denarius Moore who's doing great. Bottom line, I think Palmer will do better in a Raider uniform than 1) Campbell did in one, 2) he did in a Bengals one. Maybe not week 7, but it will happen.

That's right. Nobody wants to play for the worst franchise in the NFL. Palmer will be good in Oakland, that's all they need... "Good"

And the two draft picks.... you guys kidding me... the way Oakland drafts players they are just trading two "busts" [a la jamarcus russell] for a proven QB.

Based on your post, it sounds like you may not have understood how the draft picks will work.......The draft picks are a 1st round pick in 2012, and a second round pick in 2013 which could become a 1st rounder if the Raiders make the playoffs. The picks are being given to Cincinnati, not picks that Oakland has already made. Cincinnati, for all their faults does reasonably well in the draft especially the last few years, unlike the Raiders......So ironically, even though most of us here in the Nati hate Palmer, it is in our best interest for him to succeed(at least this year)

Considering the Raiders position, it was a deal.

It's a lot for a guy who probably isn't even in playing shape right now.

He's in shape, and he's already familiar with Jackson's program. This might be quite the marriage.

Based on your post, it sounds like you didn't understand what I was talking about... I'm speaking from the Raiders Perspective that were the ones with the Picks. What happens if they don't make the trade and draft people like
QB Jamarcus Rusell
TE Ricky Dudley
QB Todd Marinovich
DE Bob Buczkowski
T John Clay
Safety Patrick Bates
Safety Derrick Gibson
QB Eldrige Dickey

Can you really say those guys are better than Palmer?
But let's get it out of the way, what really bothered you about my comment was the "Nobody wants to play for the worst franchise in the NFL" part - I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings :hmmmm:

More like 11 years, he played for the Bengirls. :)

That one was great!!!

I knew what you meant chazrzr. If you look at my post, agreed that there were lots more disgruntled there than Palmer. He had either the most integrity, or less to lose, or lower threshhold for BS or all of the above. Didn't want out just because they were bad, it was because of why.

Still you gotta think they hoped the busts would not continue, but face up.

Nah... you didnt hurt my feelings lol! I know we deserve every jab we get. I did misread your comment though about the draft picks. I see what you mean now, and I apologize. No excuses... I was wrong

I was referring to the ythelongface comment, I totally agree with you.

"They hoped the busts would not continue" - They've been hoping for a while

There's no need for an apology my friend. :five:

And the trade for Cinci was great, they can use those to find great players so Andy "the reddish" Dalton has more weapons [Sorry, his hair looks funny], you gotta give him credit, that's a great record - No one in the NFL saw it coming.

It's all Niners baby, and we are still the only team that matters in the bay. With that being said, atleast it isn't Russell that they got, lol. Raiders still won't make the postseason, since there is a 2nd half, and we al know what the raiders do in the second half

If palmer doesn't have good start he will probably suck the rest of the season after the raider fans boo him for every bad play he makes. Nobody wants to play for the raiders.
