I'm american, and didn't grow up in the suburbs, so I'm a American football guy. It's strange to me how in America that soccer is a rich kids sport (while in school) and football, as I know it, requires so muvh more equipment. Not only that, but soccer is a poor sport, or more easily accessible I mean, in the rest of world. It's so ass backwards. It's just strange to me.
My father got a new job when I was 14, and we moved to a richer city. I was always a basketball and football guy. When I was 16 or so, my friend got on a selection team, which was a team of the best youths in the south east united states. Me and some friends were going back to my house and passed him and he had a group of those players with him because their next game was in the area, pensacola. Some of my friends, and admittedly me also, poked fun at them. Long story short, we played them. No one on my team ever played before, and we completely destroyed them. I think that to Americans in middle school/high school, who play basketball and football (american), soccer is just a easy sport. I mean we completely destroyed them, I don't recall the score but it was like 7 to 0 after maybe 20 minutes, and these kids were the best of the best in the whole south east region. I'm not saying it's a bad sport, and I'm sure many will read this and be offended because soccer is their sport, but in america, at least to kids that aren't at wealthy schools, soccer is just boring, and easy. It's slow and boring unless one team is destroying the other (if it's the team you like). I do admire ball skill, and it's impressive, but if you have a background in basketball and football, then it's just flashy and means nothing.
I think if they changed the rules, and took all the acting out, it would be much more entertaining. Offsides for instance, that's just a stupid rule, if you can't guard your guy, then he should be rewarded for it, not penaltlized for it. It's just stupid. It's the equivalent of a wr out running the backfield and a flag being thrown because he was 5 yards past them.
Sorry for the long post.
