This quote that DriveHud is the cheapest keeps being quoted but it's pricing works on a completely different model. It does seem a lot cheaper initially but it all depends on the lifetime of the other products. DriveHud would cost me $59 initially, the $9.99 per year after. Admittedly this is a lot cheaper on the initial outlay and may indeed be cheaper overall but the others do not have a subscription, they are a one of fee of $100 so after 5 years it may possibly become more expensive, that is of course if you do not have to upgrade them in that time.
But this is not too bad for a 5 year outlay and within that time does not exceed the others. But I do not know if there are any guarantees that these yearly costs will not jump up. Also what happens if you go with DriveHud for two years, go with something else for a year and go back? Would you then have rebuy the whole product?
Overall it sounds like quite good value (although I have not tried it) and is initially a fair bit cheaper, I am just saying they work on slightly different pricing strategies so it is difficult to say carte blanche one is cheaper than the others.
It's cheaper for most users. If you get the pro and use it for that many years, yes after year 5 it would be $10 more, but you do get more features.
I think the one time purchase model for software is going to the way side because it thwarts development. There's constant updates and site changes that have to occur. I think the bottom line is you should support the products and companies that show up, and are committed to their customers. You'll get what you pay for in the end.
Additionally, even though it's counter producing to marketing, Drivehud breaks down the stake level into 4 categories, and you can upgrade for the difference at any time. If you stop using it, and want to go back and use it a few years later, then you just pay the renewal. There's no auto renewal on any of the products either.
The bottom line I always say is try them all. Get the one you like best, and support the companies who support their products and customers.
