Hi Guys,

We're launching a new bovada hand history converter. It will take all bovada hands and convert them into a format for easy import into HM 1/2, PT 3/4 and poker office.

I started to build a roll on bovada and was frustrated that I couldn't view my stats, review hands, run filters, etc... so had one of our developers put it together. It was a little more involved than I thought it would be at first, but as a poker player I can say it's finally awesome to view and review hands on there in HM2.

Any ways... here's a link to the site:

Updates have recently included the ability to see all of your opponents hole cards upon review. So now you can see every time you've been bluffed, or missed value, etc...

This can't be true, can it?

I don't know just doesn't seem right, but I'm not familiar with these programs at all, so I was just asking. If I fold to someones bet I can go see what they had?

I may be wrong, but if the program uses your hand history history, it won't contain that information. Only if the hand makes it to the river and it's been called, then you can see their cards.

Bovada hand histories include ALL the players' hands. Even if they folded pre-flop. There is a 24/hr delay before you can download the hand histories or see the hands of players who didn't call at showdown.

Edit: So, yes, you can actually see all the cards at the table.

Yes, I just checked it and I was wrong, sorry. Never knew that before.

No worries. I was shocked at first too, when I found out that you could see every hand at the table. This is the only site I have seen this at.

I think it should be noted that PT4 (and presumably PT3) will consistently undervalue your "All-in equity" on Bovada hands. Because the database can see all the cards held by the players, it will calculate your equity based on which players were active on the round you got all-in on. It won't calculate it based on who actually got all-in.

So, if you and another player get all-in pre-flop, your equity will be calculated against all the players who were dealt cards (even if they folded to the BB). If you get it all-in on the flop, every player who saw the flop with you will be considered when calculating your equity (even if they fold to the shove). Here's an example hand for the second situation:

PokerStars - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

UTG: 144.4 BB
MP: 100 BB
CO: 264 BB
BTN: 38 BB
Hero (SB): 113.7 BB
BB: 81.9 BB

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7:heart:7:diamond:

fold, fold, CO raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero calls 2.5 BB, BB raises to 7 BB, CO calls 4 BB, Hero calls 4 BB

Flop: (21 BB, 3 players) 7:club: 2:club: 8:spade: Hero checks, BB bets 8 BB, CO raises to 18 BB, Hero raises to 41.5 BB, BB raises to 74.9 BB and is all-in, fold, Hero calls 33.4 BB

----------------

As you can see, only the BB and myself get all-in.

The results show the following equities:
Hero 7:heart:7:diamond: (Pre 15%, Flop 68%, Turn 95%)
Big Blind K:heart:K:diamond: (Pre 40%, Flop 5%, Turn 5%)

The flop should be: 91% to 9%. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Until I added the CO's hand into the mix. The CO had 4:club:3:club:! Now I see the right numbers. The pre-flop numbers are also off (should be 19% to 81%).

This isn't a major deal, but it's something you may want to be aware of if you use the EV line in evaluating your own play.

Yes, true... I guess there's a pro and con here. Personally I don't really care about all-in EV. A pretty pointless stat honestly, but I get that some people want to know how good/bad they think they are running. Although that's not really a good indicator.

Yeah, I don't use it much myself. I just happened to be reviewing hands with a friend and noticed that the numbers were off. When I figured out why, I found out the numbers were off every time someone folded when an all-in was called.

We're going to add an option to disable having every card shown for those who think this stat is of value. Personally I've never used it. I think seeing the cards is far more valuable than an EV stat.

I like it for dick-waving purposes myself -- specifically I like seeing my actual C earned being much higher than my all-in EV because it means my potshots and bluffs are working, which is super-satisfying.

But I agree it's a bit pointless.

I have moved my hands into a new database (per the recommendation of pokertracker) at this point. I might reprocess some of them and put them in the other database, when you do this. The only reason? I really am interested in how bad I ran in April.

Over about 54 hundred hands, I ran 14.4bb/100 BELOW my all-in equity. And that's with the all-in equity consistently lower than it should be. It was probably the worst run of the bad side of variance I've ever seen. I remained in the black (but just barely) when I should have been crushing the game. I'm semi-interested in seeing how far below expectations I was really running. So I can post in bad beats (of course). :p

Any chance in this becoming available for Mac? Probably not since LB isn't, right?

No, but it's pretty easy to run a parallel type program for Mac and convert the hands there for import. If you do them in bulk, then it would be worth it to run and process them.

Well my computer seems perpetually against successfully running Boot Camp, and as usual I don't want to pay like $70 for parallels or similar. Thanks anyway.

There are some other free alternatives. I'm not a MAC expert or I would recommend one. If you google though, I know there are several good ones out there.

New auto update on the converter that will detect and mark 6-max and full ring hands better. It should detect and prompt for a new version update when you load it next time.

Also, important update information for Poker Tracker users. Poker Tracker came to us to ask that we remove known hole cards from our software. They felt that because some people complained about all-in EV stats being off, this reflected poorly on their software and they wanted it removed. We suggested some other viable alternatives, but they were insistent on this change. So this latest update will remove known hole cards if you are a Poker Tracker user. If you still want known hole cards, you still have a couple of options.

1) Don't update the converter or poker tracker. PT is going to block these hands in their next update.
2) Use Holdem Manager since it will still work and they don't have an issue with this.

Again, apologies to PT users. We don't really fully understand PT reasoning, we thought it would be more viable to have it explained to users and allow them to decide if all-in EV was important to them or not, but PT saw it otherwise and we respect that position. If you have any questions, you can contact them.
