Wow, after reading all the responses before me. Not really anthing to add as seems like something from every angle was mentioned. Oh, except I have to ad this post to get my post count up. Hmmmm... is that anything like sucking out. :) But every point that was made was good in its own way. And since were all different, I'm sure everyone of us found valid reasons to play and also not to play freerolls in our own situations. But bottom line is just enjoy life.

What a great thread
Freerolls are a good source of learning and gameplay experience.I for one love them, only downside i see is they do tend tend to drag on a bit more so the ones with 5000+starters which i did manage to reach final table and pick up $84 for my trouble finishing 5th from 5000 total time 7 n a half hours. That little victory taught me a lot about freerolls,as you can imagine all that time watching how others play the game the mistakes they make the unexpected outcomes bad beats pure luck and plain insane allins with 34 off always make
me laugh while i am sat there waiting to pick up a monster hand.Yep FRs are great fun and a invaluable learning source.
Long live the Freeroll

Yes the tables are VERY LOOSE
but if you can manage to play whatever style use and get in the money
then more power to you.

Also there are people with absolutely no money that like to play (ME INCLUDED) even to play at a 2/4c no limit table you should have a bank roll of at least 300X th BB so that is 300 x .04= $12.00 buck to sit at the table.
then that should only be 3% of your bank roll so that is $400

That is my take anyhow. Any input or correction wil be appreciated.
So My goal is simply to build the bankroll from only Free Rolls
Was up to $4 made a mistake down to zero now 31cents

Now that experience cost me only my time and the 4 bucks that I won so it is also good experience managing your bank roll. Even at micro amounts because the same principles apply to your principal

I play in freerolls because it offers the best value. I get to do something I enjoy (play poker), I don't have to risk anything, and I have the possibility of gaining something.

1) I'm very conservative when it comes to money. Any spare change I have goes into a Roth IRA, not a poker account. I'm not trusting my earnings to a deck of cards.

2) For free, there's no better place to play. After an hour investment to get past the donkeys, you can actually play semi-decent poker.

3) Investment = Time I'd Spend Playing Poker Anyways, Return = 1$. Percent increase = Infinity.

So in conclusion, for the amount of risk that I assume, the poker is pretty darn good.

Besides, low stakes SnG's are just as bad.

PS - Get a brother & a friend who share the account, and have them play for you while you're away getting dinner ;)

Well...

Some people actually don't have a viable mechanism to fund an online account. Others don't have the money to use their viable mechanism. Some people enjoy the sport of the game. Some people like to watch people make really bad decisions...and some of us....

Finish on final tables in a lot of freerolls. Though it shouldn't be all that impressive to beat a bunch of newbies, there is still something impressive about beating thousands of players.

Mostly, I play them to continue to experience online play, and contribute to my growth and development. It would be difficult to say that freerolls helped me do better in ring games, but I can definitely say they have made me a stronger sit-n-go player. I try to look at every table in a freeroll as a final table, and like to build early chip stacks with somewhat questionable play, and then sit and pounce. Call it....FUN!!!

i must say, freerolls are not that bad,
i can make the money, in a little over an hr,
and ive turned pennies into over $100 many times.

i play cash mostly, but i would rather play a freeroll, then make a second deposit to any site.

one deposit per site, thats my plan, then freeroll.

i think taking $200 and going downtown to the casino to play live, and having the cash on hand, is the only way to go.

Honestly my approach to freeroll is 2-fold:

1. Great place to learn a new game. I learned how to play RAZZ by entering a freeroll on Full Tilt, I even won $2 on my 3rd try at it. I am currently playing the nightly Soko freeroll on Costa for the sake of learning a new game. So... great place to learn a new game without risking your money.

2. Great place to blow off some tilt steam. I am prone to tilt pretty bad, been working to correct it, but I find playing a freeroll and just screwing around sometimes can be a great way to kill tilt.

Also a good way to learn new software.

As far as freerolls being profitable, it's possible, but a long shot to say the least.
