There are some freerolls on PS which have such a limited players to play like 40, 60, 80, 100. They are satellites to really attractive satellites, which next step almost every time is leading to you a last step or the main event itself.
There's a background them, they are not random at all.
Let's suppose there's a 1050$ event. There are many satellites to this (55$ / 109$/ 210$), most of them running as a deadline, when the tournament is already started, but you have still your step to get into. So many serious players are more likely to make a direct buy-in, if the satties are not attractive for them ( I mean few players gtd. to move forward / it will be finished too late and probably would affect their time if they would qualified).

When a satellite's field probably won't reach the minimum criteria to run the sattie (around 1hour / half hour till the game they have a clean knowledge if its the case), they support it with a freeroll, make sure it can be runned. These freerolls are really just to pump up the possible bigger satties reputation, so these are just basically coin-flips, not even scheduled-pre, cause their aim is pretty much to make on further steps bigger fields.
If its worth to you to have a big chance especially when big series sometimes supported with these kind of freerolls & you can take your time in front of the computer not moving much as they are scheduled rapid and not pre, you can hunt them and hoping on hit it more times and big ones. I was in this shoe too, sometimes there's a tendency if they are presenting them at every hour's XY minute, but you have to adjust them to the further bigger satties.
I hope I could share my experiences with them. Good luck, of course they can lead you to big things, but more likely not and it can cause some daily unwanted hours dropped off while you are just hunting them to be able to join.
