Hi Poker O,
I'm looking at this thread because it you who was the OP.
I only reason I joined GG was to have the opportunity to play the wsop. The other site which I had also joined didn't feel right so I didn't pursue that route. Like yourself, I've played in big and small games as well as different versions of poker. This site offers them but the overt "carrot and stick" approach to getting you to invest both your time and money is off-putting to me. Similarly, having the cards peeled back slowly and the gratuitous emoticons as part of the card play is off-putting. When I play for keeps on the felt where first place is at least a decent year's salary my focus is who is in the game, why are they in that game..everything else is a distraction. There are good games such as the AoF where additional jackpots are awarded and I've won a few of those which was a nice bonus but you will have your game slowed down by some of the frills you'll be contending with. Overall, my opinion is that a skilled player can do very well on this site at any level and that the loyalty perks are sufficient to keep you motivated enough to stay there...but not exclusively. Every site has their culture so I'm something of a hummingbird/honeybee where, regarding this poker site, I found the presentation and site navigation OK but not intuitive, the mechanics of the game play OK but not conducive to multi-tabling over extended periods and there is enough pollen available that is distinctive but you don't want to make it your only stop.
