For me some reason I like to stay on the strip and play the table games there and party but when it comes to poker I've always liked going downtown to play poker. Also, I like going to the GN for the buffet!

Alert Alert....finally hit my 100th post!

Stayed at Flamingo. Good rooms and good buffet. 4/5 overall. Minor issue with the toilet though.

No one has mentioned comps for poker players. I like to get free meals. Any of the poker rooms offer player comps?

nearly every place will award you "points" on their players card when you play live. You can use that for food, merchandise, hotel etc. basically use it like cash within the casino. Some places also offer these points for tournaments, but that is less common.

Keep in mind you have to spend a LOT of money on slots to earn enough points to buy a fast food lunch. ;)

Encore is pretty generous with comps. Aria and Bellagio are great once you reach platinum status via Mlife. If looking for a clean place to crash, I recommend Silverton.

Platinum with Aria usually earns you free nights with Sky Suites. This is always fun as they always provide limos and food credits.

I was platinum for 2 years on Mlife and never got any of that. I got 2 free nights a year and earned some minor food comps. Sometimes when I booked rooms and paid for them I got $50-100 in food credits.

And I play a LOT of slots lol. Just trying to make sure people know that you have to spend a lot of money if you hope to get anything at all. :)

Bally's:

I arrived on a Sun night - only to discover I had left my wallet with my id and all of my credit cards in the cab. Thumbs up to Bally's for letting me check in with only my Total Rewards card and the credit card they had on file! (I got my wallet back later)

They upgraded me to a Junior suite - either because they had no rooms in the most recently renovated tower, because I was crying - or both lol.

My room was actually pretty good and I am quite picky. It was huge and had a very large bathroom. It was not luxurious - but it was nice - nicer than I expected.

I love the casino at Bally's - they almost always have $5 table games and they have a decent selection of slot machines considering they are much smaller than most other casinos on the strip.

Food choices are few and not great - but you are close enough to many other places to eat.

The location is excellent - you can walk through Paris and across the street to get to PH and they have a shuttle to the Rio.

I would strongly recommend it to those coming in the summer who need a reasonably priced place to stay and need to get to the Rio.

Rio:

I stayed in the Masquerade Tower which is the newest and I thought my room was very nice. It was a spacious suite and looked pretty good overall. It had a fantastic view. There was a small refrigerator in the room and a nice long vanity/counter like hall outside of the bathroom.

If you are playing at the Rio you can't beat the convenience of staying at the Rio.

They have a great selection of slots - it isn't easy to find $5 table games though.

There is a good choice of places to eat - Chinese, Vietnamese, the Sports Deli, American burger, the buffet is not bad - and there are other places I have not even tried.

I would definitely stay here again - but only if I was playing at the Rio. Otherwise the location is not good if you want to be on the strip.

Candlewood Suites

I stay at a lot of Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn's when traveling, so when I went to LV to play in this year's wsop Senior's Championship, I used points to stay at CWS. It is about 2 miles from the RIO, but traffic that weekend was a nightmare. EDC was going on at the same time and the daytime temp was ~113+.

I had eaten at PF Chang's, across the street from CWS the night before and had leftovers, which I consumed during the 90 minute dinner break. There was plenty of time to go back and forth. Unfortunately after quadrupling my stack in the first 4 hours, I gave it all back after the dinner break and only made it til about 8:30 that night and was out 1,200/4,219.

The CWS is clean, it has a Kitchenette, Microwave, Refrigerator, etc..

If all you want to do is gamble and you do not care where you stay then I think motel 6 by MGM is your best choice as you can walk to Hooters or MGM and from there go to any casino you like. If you care about where you are going to be sleeping then the price ranges from hooters to aria-cosmopolitan. My favorite balance between them all has been MGM so far as it is a huge place with easy monorail access to other properties and the crowd that frequents matches my late twenties demographics.

The Orleans is a great place to stay if the room rates are down, like they often are Sun-Thurs. The rooms are spacious and nice. They've got a great pool. Lots of choices of restaurants. It's a fun place in general. And they have one of the biggest poker rooms in Las Vegas, with about 33 tables or so. That poker room is always busy, being that it is a favorite among locals.

good deals are fast disappearing in vegas . I've received many 'free room 'offers from one of the major casino owning chains ( unnamed in this post ) but when you delve a little deeper there always seems to be a hotel resort fee of some kind . I cant remember exactly what it is called , but it will run from 15 to 25 bucks a day , depending on the quality of the hotel you want to book . basically it gives you access to internet connections , the spa , tennis courts etc , even if you don't plan on using any of those options . oh , and you still have to pay extra for that access ! I call these free offers false advertising .

Yep - they have been doing that for years and it is a total rip-off. Most of them will not let you opt -out - but I always have to have internet so that wouldn't help me anyway.

In all of the many nights I have stayed in Vegas hotels I have virtually never used any of the things it includes except for internet.
