Hi everyone, need some advice about going to Vegas to play in the wsop next year.

I was planning on going in 2020 after I turned 21 but obviously COVID happened and scuppered those plans, and the past 2 years I have gone on family holidays instead but next year I am 100% planning on fulfilling my dream of playing in the WSOP.

I'm not planning of staying the whole series, just for 2 weeks (or 3 if I make it into the 2nd week of the Main) so looking at this year's schedule i'd have arrived say a week before the Main began (25th/26th June) and planned to leave on Day 4/5 of the Main unless I made it that far obv:ROFLMAO:

Tournaments from this year's schedule I would've planned on playing:

26th June - 27th June: $600 deepstack
27th June - 29th June: $500 Salute to Warriors
28th June - 2nd July: $400 Collossus
1st July - 3rd July: $1,000 Tag Team (if I can find someone)
2nd July - 4th July: $1,000 Mini Main Event
3rd July - 4th July: $800 Independence Day Celebration NLH
3rd July - busted: $10,000 Main Event

And If I bust the Main early then maybe 1 or both of these:

$1,000 NLH
$600 Ultrastack

Obviously I might not be able to play all of these depends on how I get on etc but that's what my rough schedule would've looked like, total buyins of $15,900.

So I reckon i'd need roughly $16k for buyins, not sure how much for cash games what are the usual stakes played in Vegas? I'm used to playing £1/£2 at my local casino but let's say I bring an extra $4k for cash games so currently at $20k total.

But what about travel/accomodation/other costs etc? I'd be travelling from the UK and a rough search of flights.com says a round trip would cost about $1,200. No idea about accomodation though, any advice where the best places (BnB/hotels near the Strip) and the cost of these would be much appreciated.

What about travelling whilst in Vegas, is everything pretty much walkable or is it advisable to get a taxi/bus or even rent a car? Not sure if i've missed anything but any advice and help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say my total cost would be around $20,000-$25,000 or so, is that realistic? I know next year's schedule might be different but let's assume it'll be the same as this years to make it easier.

Thanks again!

Good luck sounds awesome! Hotels are all over the place with prices so it depends on where you want to stay. The series is at Horseshoe so you can get a room there for a couple hundred a night. The strip is all walkable but it’s long walks in between casinos and in June and July it’s over 100 degrees so it’s hot! Cabs are Uber are everywhere so no problem there. Food is getting expensive so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the reply:) i'll have a look around the different hotels, as long as it's in a decent area and has a comfy bed that's all that matters to me:ROFLMAO:

I forgot to ask about how it works with taking loads of cash into the USA from abroad? I need to fill in a form if i'm bringing more than 10k in cash or something like that?

If you are traveling with an excess of $10,000, you must report it to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer when you enter or exit the U.S. But there is no limit to the amount of money you can travel with.

successes, the best thing would be to look for accommodation not so close and organize your schedules to come and go, there are several platforms for viewing hotels

How would I go about extending my stay if I need to (if I make Day 4/5 of the Main), don't want to have nowhere to sleep if I make day 4/5:ROFLMAO:

No. You just need to make sure you claim it when they ask you how much $$'s do you have with you. It's not a big deal as you'll have the perfect reason for carrying a large sum of money with you (fwiw, there are other ways to bring $$'s without needing to carry actual cash)

I was planning to go this year but my partner was very ill so it wasn't a possibility for me. Next year I will be going for sure! (I've only been once before & went on a very limited budget).

You'd be looking at approx. $200/night for accommodation.

You don't need to rent a car in Vegas. Lots of taxi & uber. There's also a monorail that runs the length of the strip & a bit further.
Personally I'm going to rent right at the Horseshoe. Its just so much easier to be able to just walk down to the tournament rooms while staying in the same casino. ie breaks in the tournament, you can rip up to your room, prepare a snack, have a quick nap... or whatever
And keep in mind, food is REALLY EXPENSIVE. You'll want to plan for this.
Myself, I will purchase some good quality Whey protein powder when I get there, and a Veggie Green powder drink too. Getting a room with a useable mini-fridge and microwave is a huge bonus (not sure if the horseshoe has this but I kind of doubt it).

I've looked into other spots, places that are a 10-15min. walk from the WSOP venue (that more likely turn out to be a 20-25min. walk, lol. In Vegas it is difficult to walk to places like you might expect to be able to when looking at the map but there's loads of fences making it near impossible.
For tournaments
There's lots of other series going on at the same time as the WSOP. You might want to look into playing some of them while you're there &/or some of the 'Daily Deepstacks' right at the Horseshoe.

Maybe see you there. My plan is to go a couple weeks before the time you're planning for. I'll be playing the Senior's event(s).... 's' as they have them playing at the other series around Vegas at the same time as they're running the Senior's at the WSOP.

It usually comes out around February. They release a small schedule in Dec or Jan of high profile events.''

Keep in mind it is hot as hell there at that time of year. You will not want to walk a lot - it is probably better to find the cheapest hotel you can that is close to the venue. I stay at the Horseshoe for convenience but there are a few cheaper ones. Check the Linq or Flamingo.

AS PO said - food is very expensive. You will spend $35 for a burger, drink and fries. You can squeeze in some fast food meals but expect them to be way more than you would normally pay. I would budget $75 a day for "cheap" food if you eat 3 meals a day. And forget getting some kind of snack instead - those will break the bank too lol.

As soon as you arrive you will need to buy drinks and snacks for your room at a pharmacy or store. There are several on the strip. If you go to a gift store in a casino or buy from the WSOP cafe it is outrageous - $8 for a bottle of soda.

I'm planning on staying at the Horseshoe :) does anyone know if the price gets more expensive the longer you wait to book there? Assuming it doesn't get fully booked before the full schedule comes out. If it costs around the same then i'll wait until the full schedule is released but if it's cheaper to book when the Main Event dates are released a couple months beforehand then i'll book then :)

It could go up - I think it will depend on the number of early bookings they get. You could always book it early - then check the prices once a month and if you find them cheaper cancel your first reservation and re-book at the lower rate.

You will NOT regret choosing to stay at the Horseshoe - the convenience is so worth it.

Good thanks! Hotels nowadays are so expensive and I would also love to rent luxury car and feel myself like a boss in Vegas and when I was in Vegas I rent a car and I haven't loose time on riding a bus or walking

Yea but if you stay on the strip and it is a poker trip you just don't need a car. It is cheaper to walk to the close games and Uber to any that are too far to walk.

Hi Richie, GL in Vegas next year. Hopefully you get many cashes. I've gone the last 4 years and hope to go next year for my third colussus event. I usually get air bnb 10-20 minutes away from the strip. I like to go to diners on my way to play tournaments, but driving back and forth and if you run deep in a tourney, driving late at night is kind of tough. A lot of people out at night. I'm also thinking of getting a room at the Horseshoe next year because that would definitely be helpful during breaks. Like others have said, food is expensive.

Thanks all!

It's nearly time to book, the Main Event schedule should be coming out any day now. Are there any other UK based people here who know how to buy in for the tournament? I was told to register for BravoPokerLive and do it from there but I need a Caesars Rewards card and it says they aren't accepting registrations from UK people, I really don't want to carry over 10 grand with me to buy in using cash or have to use my debit card as I have issues with my bank with £100 transactions never mind 10 grand

I work for one of the major banks here in the USA. Is your problem with the debit card and large purchases that it brings up a flag and they temporarily restrict the card? I know that with our clients we send them a text asking if they did the transaction. If they reply "yes" we'll turn their card back on and they can do the transaction again. Is that what your bank does?

The client can also set the card to make purchases up to the balance in the checking account it is linked to. Have you asked if you can do that with your debit card?

That is definitely frustrating. :( What happens is that there is a step in removing the temporary restriction that was left out when they removed it. It may be best to just put up with the inconvenience and call them if it is restricted.

Another option would be to check and see if whoever receives payments for entries will accept a wire transfer. It is possible that they do if they are dealing with people from around the world.

However you do it, I know that in the end you'll be successful and have a great time at the tourney.

Good cards! :)

WSOP ME dates have been released (2nd-16th July)

Should I book it now or safe to wait a couple more weeks, will the Horseshoe rooms sell out quick?
