For a beginner, I think $ 50 is enough to play microgames, and during your time you can figure out your game and know how to make a decision about your money.

I remember when I started I sticked to 10$ and only 0.10 tournaments, the 360 player turbo games. It was a good idea, helped me learn the game a lot. freerolls and 0.10's.

Unless you already know you are a winning player, 0 is the best bankroll to start.
When starting higher, you'll pay to learn.
The latter is fine, as long as you are aware.

It all depends on your ability to play. Some and $ 1000 per day is not enough. Start with $ 50 and see for yourself how you play and what you are capable of.

This is an impossible question to answer with just a figure. What stakes do you play? Cash? STT's? MTT's? A mix?

Some advise I was given when I started playing poker around 12-15 years ago was "how much would you spend on a first date?"

If you're a take her to the opera and then to a fancy meal with more cutlery than you know what to do with, then you might deposit $1,000.

If you're a cinema and McDonald's kind of guy then $50 is more your kind of level.

$25-$40 is a good starting bankroll, to deposit. Start out on the 5/10 cent tables. Play like 3 tables at a time. When you double that $25-$40, play the 10/25 cent tables. Minimum of $50, to play (3) 10/25 cent tables. Stay at this table until you hit over $100. The 50 cent/$1 tables are an easy way to lose, and fast. At this point, play some tournaments or cheap satellites. Don't get greedy at this point. Especially with Hold 'em. All it takes is just one bad beat, and you're wiped out. Multiple tables, $5 tournaments or sit n go's, $5 satellites.

Ideal balance

Good evening everyone.
I believe it depends on the MTT variance, but I think 100 times the tournament value is ideal.
If the tournament is $ 1, it is ideal to have $ 100 in my account.

Conservative 100 Buy-in"s is enough for microlimits. In cash we can use 50 buy-in amount

You can start with 25 cents from a freeroll. I recommend 20- 100 dollars to start.

90% of players lose their first bankroll. So I think this amount should be exactly what you can afford to spend. My first deposit was usually $ 20.

Know your limit, what can you afford to lose. If you can't afford to lose you need to not enter any money and start your bankroll with $0 and play as many freerolls as possible to get the bankroll up. I recall playing 100 player tournaments where the winner that $0.10. That's where my first bankroll come from, I won these a few times, then I player $0.10 tournament or sit and go. If you can throw $10, $20, $100 away and not worry about it, then that is how much you probably should start with. Much like a slot machine don't sit down with $20 and play if you need that $20 for rent, it is not the right call.

Always keep $100.00 in the active sites I'm withdrawing on. That will take in account for a bad bout of variance.

A good amount is one that you are not scared to lose. Otherwise, you may suffer psychological trauma. :D

As already mentioned first these money should be money which you can easily afford to loose without compromising your life in any way. This being accomplished for MTTs you will need at least 50 buyins which on the cheapest MTTS with 0.55$ buyin means at least 30$ initial bankroll.

Where do you want to play?

pokerstars 150-200 Buy Ins for MTT and 50 for SNG. At stars, there are lager fields and greater variance.

For smaller poker sites with an average of 150-500 Players, 100 Buy ins could be enough.

Your starting bankroll can be whatever you win in cardschat freerolls. Once I get it to $200, like at betonline, I make a $25 to $30 deposit, so that when I get it to $500, they wont give you grief for doing a withdrawal since in their books they see your deposit. Some places are no deposit, no withdrawals.

Hi Guys/Girls,

What is a good starting bankroll to begin poker with?

it depends on the buy-ins you want to play, but depositing less than 50$ is kinda pointless.
so 50-100$ is fine to start. more = better

having a bankrollmanagement of 50-100 buy-ins also helps to avoid going broke
