I don't think it's a good idea to teach children to gamble because it's something that involves money and children are very inconsequential and could end up harming themselves if they don't have any judgment
But why do you see something bad in the game of poker, then all professional poker players are bad in your opinion.

Children are much smarter than we think!

I have learned to play poker since I was 10 years old, I think it would be good to learn poker as a child and if it goes well, then from the age of 18 you can start making money
I started playing card games even before I went to school. And I'm not exaggerating, I played cards when I was 4 or 5 years old. I don't have children, but if I did, I definitely wouldn't teach them to play card games. In my opinion, children should do sports, music, but poker is definitely not for children :)

This is a very serious thing to consider.

Of course poker teaches math, money management if done properly and strategy. But it also teaches how to risk money on the odds of winning.

Worst of all it teaches when a parent is bluffing. Our kids look up to us to always be honest. If they catch you bluffing too much they will loose that sacred trust in you.

I think there's nothing wrong with poker since it's another mental sport like chess and I think it would be good if they taught it in schools or universities.

In my opinion, teaching as one of the types of game that makes you think ahead, predict the actions of others and is just an interesting game - yes. But to teach that you need to lose money or make big bets in the hope of making money - definitely not.

Although I am not very much in favor of it, I taught my granddaughters at the time when they were 12 and 14 years old, I recently taught my grandson when I was 15 years old, I started between 13 and 15 years old

I feel that poker, involving money, shouldn't be taught to children because they won't understand the responsibility that comes with managing it

I have no children. But I know for sure that I would not want my children to learn to play poker. Gambling is not entertainment for children.

The truth is that it's not a good idea to teach a child how to play poker, is it a gambling game, do you think?
It's like teaching him to smoke or steal. I totally disagree with this thread

I think it would be cool to teach kids how to play poker, just for fun and learning.

goodside is children learn quickly nowadays and poker improves their calculating skills, probabilities.

but bad side is once they are addicted you cannot control it and they can go in negative direction. We should be very careful.

i think its better to teach chess or checkers any similar kind of games where money is not involved.

There are probably a lot of parents who would consider this a positive action, but in reality it is a disaster, but there will always be such people, nothing can be done about it.

I've been playing card games since I was a kid and I wouldn't want my kids to waste their time on such nonsense. I'd rather have them doing sports, music or some other creative activity.

I don't see how it can be a bad thing. From an early age I taught my children to play poker. They will do so later if they want to bet, but it won't be my fault, I only teach them so they can play among themselves and with friends.
For those who say that I am doing wrong by teaching them why they can bet: think that most children are shown how to watch soccer games, but that does not mean that they do it so that they can later place sports bets. If they choose a side they will only have losses due to their bad decision.
You can bet on all existing table games, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't teach them how to have fun.

Teaching strategy-based games like chess helps develop critical thinking, pattern recognition, and planning skills. Introducing poker later, in a controlled and educational way, could help with probability, psychology, and risk assessment rather than promoting gambling. The key is ensuring the child understands the difference between playing for fun and the risks associated with gambling.

Teaching your child how to play a game, not to mention gambling. The child learns quickly and even a form of fun may have negative consequences in the future. It is better to teach the child games that require predicting and understanding the consequences of one's own choices, such as chess, and later, when the child understands the game, it is better to teach poker as a form of fun than gambling.

I don't think it's a good idea. Card games are essentially games for adults, only for adults. Depending on the age, you need to choose educational games for your child that will allow the child to develop logic, receive and absorb new knowledge.

Teaching this game to a child may not be such a good idea due to the fact that kids look at the game like a gambler would. They do not see value; they see opportunity. Teaching them strategy is not the same as showing them the basics. I have a daughter around 13 whom I have taught very basic information to about the game. For a short time I was showing her how a tournament is generally played. I showed her very basic things to do with the game, like how a flush would beat a straight and that even an ace-high could win a hand. I even let her in on a fun game we had around the holidays with family. In this case I presented her to the game of probability and how poker can be unpredictable. She had fun, but a short time later she became less interested. For the better as I was not prepping her to step into a gambler's game. What made her lose her interest was that it was boring to her and she hated the feeling of losing chips. All-in was depressing lol. On a side note she won the one game we played. Mainly because she was giving up near the end and I endulged her all-ins cause i knew she wanted to be done. This was 2 years ago, she has mentioned the game a couple times, and we will play again in the future. But I make sure to inform her this is an adults game and can be abused if not taken seriously.

at this point it would be good to teach them anything, but seriously there is alot of usable lessons in poker. Probabilities are a mother so never to early, patience, social cues, lots of math. Also if their gonna have a gambling problem better poker than taken odds against the house
