As for me, my brother loves poker. He plays with me sometimes. As for my parents, they don't understand much about the game, but they don't mind me playing it.

Unfortunately, most of my family, or those who have no knowledge of poker in particular, see that I am wasting time on a boring, non-moving green screen😄
But as the days passed, they discovered that I didn't care about their presence when I was in front of the green screen😅

For them they do not have minimal knowledge of what the game of online poker is, they are from another time but they always support me.

As a Typical Asian Family, my parents always think that when someone playing a poker card is definitely a gamble. But they don't know that actually poker is not just gamble, in poker the luck can't 100% lead you to win. We need to study, practice, getting experience and more to win the pot or even eliminate the enemy in tournament.

But my family only think i'm doing gamble....
Family is probably the most important thing in your life. But if poker is not just a game of chance and an opportunity to earn extra income for you, then over time your family will understand and support you. Just show them that poker is a source of additional income for you.

I have been married three times and I always had conflicts with my wives because of my hobby of poker, billiards, backgammon and of course slots. We often fought about it. Now I'm divorced and live alone, I play as much as I want and when I want, but being alone is not so good. Therefore, it is better to let your family always be a priority for you, because otherwise, one day you may just be alone.

I think most people are always the same. It's a game of chance, you'll lose everything and so on. If you start to get a return, then they'll change everything.

Initially, due to the lack of information, my family did not have a good acceptance, as it is a card game there is a certain prejudice but over time they began to see that poker is not a game of chance but rather of skill and they accepted it better.

My family reacted absolutely normally when they found out that I started playing poker. They trust me completely in everything, I immediately came and said that I am not a gambler and know what I am doing. At that time I was 20 years old and I started playing live poker. I came there in the evening and could play all night or until the morning. My parents saw that I always had money, although at that time I did not work anywhere, and therefore they treated my new hobby absolutely normally. I explained that poker is not just a game, told the main subtleties and moments. So I did not have any difficulties with my parents in this regard.

No one in my family is against my passion for poker, they only express words of support to me, not reproaches.

Thankfully my parents never really had a problem with me playing poker.

It's a very interesting niche. I compare it to stock investing very often as I feel it offers the most similarities the average person can understand. You're managing risk, allocating capital and using probabilities to make long term profitable decisions.

Alternatively if you're a losing player so long as you're using money you can afford to lose or so called Entertainment or Hobby money as you would call it in a budget I also don't see anything wrong with it. Sure you're "losing" money gambling but most leisure activities cost money. It's a hobby that can pay you if you invest enough time and effort into it. In my opinion it beats an Xbox or a Play Station

For me, poker is just entertainment. I like to compete, and I don't care about the money as much as the process of playing and competing with other players. My family is aware of my passion for poker and has a neutral attitude towards my hobby. Since I actually pay all our bills, they don't ask me any questions. I think that when you are able to pay your family's bills, they won't have any questions for you either :)

I started playing poker because my wife taught me... but I started studying and playing live tournaments and this made my in-laws and parents extremely worried because it was a game that involved money... Nowadays They trust and know that I play with wisdom and a lot of discipline... the important thing is to study and practice and seek more and more knowledge. That's why I discovered the forum and I'm really enjoying it.

It is normal for your parents to see poker as a game of chance, especially if they do not know the strategies used. It's great that you are explaining to them that poker is more than luck! You can help them understand it better by showing the strategies, talking about successful professional players, and emphasizing the mental aspects of the game. Be patient, it may take time for them to change their perspective. Keep talking to them respectfully and eventually they will understand your passion for poker!
