Further, as a player you are constantly evolving your game!Dude... Yes, it exists because it is a mathematical concept.
Look under 'probability and statistics' for concepts like standard deviation, expected value and everything else...
Maybe it will help you understand the concept behind the word 'variance'.
But in short, it's just about "how far" in general your results deviate from the expected value.
Well, I think that this is already answered, but I'll try to contribute to the fact that Variance is a math and statistic concept, not just a poker excuse.Do you believe in variance? Honestly they keep telling me it's true. Funny, I spent some time with a decent player who insisted it was true.. He took some time away, and now calls BS. Long run short run, you win, you lose...variance to me is a made up thing.
Yes, of course variance is real. There's no doubt about that. But sometimes I think that bigger stacks with equal chances of winning are more likely to succeed. But a lot depends on the poker room, really. For example, I so often see wild runs at pokerstars (flush and straight with 1st card or smaller pocket pairs beating higher pocket pairs), while at 888 I feel 100% comfortable, where although there are runs, but with adequate probability. The same can be said about GGPoker, where I don't feel unfairness and the feeling that the poker room allows fishes to win with a higher probability than it really is.Do you believe in variance?
