The only luck factor that could be discussed in chess is that you are lucky that the opponent makes a very bad move, that there will be endless possibilities for you. But in reality this is not luck, but a bad move by your opponent that favored you.
There is luck in chess. Round about 1975 I was playing an Australian international in a lightning tournament at Ilford. I can't remember his name but i think this was the one where I was joint first (with a young bloke named Parsons) in the major Tournament. I lost my queen for only two pieces, which is not a good trade, but suddenly I had the Horwitz bishops, my knight was entrenched on a strong square, and his queen was helpless. I won the game.
