Hello & welcome to the Cardschat forum:)
Of course I will play, for me I still enjoy poker today.
Your choice to become a gambler is what will make you get bored or hate poker.
I think the best thing is to choose to be a professional amateur and wait for the opportunity to win the big reward one day.
For me, I think that enjoying the game of poker is stronger and better than gambling.

If I could go back in time, would you like to know poker, I've lost a lot of things. Discouraged
that's life, everything is still ahead of you, because if you have lost a lot before, then learn from your mistakes and you will have victories in the future!
I've been playing poker for over 20 years and I'm still learning

how will those millionaires appear - someone has to lose

"If I could go back in time ..." Cool, then!

"... would you like to know poker ..." Huh, you say? You're "back in time" and I'm where, exactly? Back with you, maybe? How far back are we -- like a couple years, or like fifty? Shouldn't we be spending out time gobbling up stocks and betting on the World Series and such? Who would have time for poker?

"...I've lost a lot of things ..." Just don't lose the way back, right?

"Discouraged." Hopefully a bit of levity helps, yeah?

Yes quite happy I studied and learned how to play all those many years ago no regrets at all spending all the time and reading the many books it took. If I had one thing I'd maybe do over or different. It would be too have kept learning and played higher stakes cash than 50nl. I do sometimes wonder how good I could have become. But then I wonder if I did that would poker still feel like a hobby, or more like work. If it came to feel more like work I likely wouldn't still be playing today.

I also likely wouldn't have the amazing wife I have today if I'd kept studying, learning and playing higher stakes. All things considered I like and am happy with things the way they turned out.

Cheers!!!

I would have played higher stakes and more hours when the games were super soft and I almost went full-time professional (ca 2003-2013).

100NL was almost as easy to beat as 2NL now. Sometimes easier as some drunk often sat down and donated several buy-ins.

If I had the opportunity to go back, would I start playing poker again?
I think yes, I would, but I also know that I would definitely do it differently :)
First of all, I would immediately create an account at CardsChat, and it would change everything for me :)

I have always played Poker especially On-line as a Amateur Hobbyist, Which in my definition means I don't Gamble, I have never registered any money with any poker site so If I want to buy-into a poker game, then I first have to win a few freerolls, That was the Easy part, Now I have to decide which Type of buy-in is best for me to play, Tournaments can take way too long, and Cash tables seem to be never ending. So I found 9 player Sit and Goes were my preferred game type, They gave me the Experience of playing Early stages, and heads up play all on one single table.
It wasn't until I started to make a profit from these games that I decided to enter Local Pub and Club games. Now some will say that if I buy-in to a pub game with my own money I am a Gambler, I still maintain I am not, I think of the buy-in as the door price I pay to enter the game, just as I would have to buy a ticket to a Cinema Film, Pop Concert, Football Match or anything else people enjoy, Once I have bought into a Game then that's all I am willing to pay, to take part in a Game I enjoy, That is dead Money, Money I will never see again.
If I should be lucky enough to make the money and Win, then that's a Bonus. Paying out good money to do something you enjoy is not a waste, I consider Football games a waste of time because I am just a spectator, and I am a bad spectator, because I want to be involved and be part of the action, I am way too old to chase a ball around for 90 minutes, So no thankyou, If I can watch a game on TV for free, then why pay out to see less in a Football Stadium, You certainly don't get Slow motion replays there.
So basically I do not consider myself to be a Gambler, and I never enter a game thinking how much I can Win, because most of the time I would be disappointed, I enter a Poker Game to be in on the action and play a game I enjoy for a couple of hours, Winning or Losing is Immaterial, I believe that if more players took this attitude, then there would be less players finding themselves losing small fortunes and finding themselves in financial difficulties.
Play because you enjoy Playing and you cannot be disappointed, Play to win by all means but don't try to run before you can walk. Everyone loses some of the time, ask Phil Helmuth!

The truth is that I never thought about it, but I think that if I would play poker again, only for recreational purposes, never as a way to earn a living. I prefer other things over poker

There is no other activity that fulfills me more than poker.
It demands everything from me, sometimes I feel hate, but I soon realize that it is love in disguise.
But I feel like I don't need to go back, it's all here and now.

Getting to know poker is destiny. Anyone would like to correct some points of the past. There is no escaping fate.

But I've lost and lost a lot, man, and I don't feel better thinking about quitting poker.

Cardschat helps you a lot, can I just know how to make money from poker?

100%! Tôi yêu poker và sẽ không đánh đổi những trải nghiệm đó và những người tôi đã gặp để lấy bất cứ thứ gì. Chưa kể nó còn cho tôi công việc tốt nhất mà tôi từng có!
Most of all, I have lost everything and am in debt, do you have any useful advice to help me?

Yes but I would have gotten into it earlier, when it was easier to win significant money online. I only really began playing seriously in 2018, and by then the best times were already behind us. There was a revival in online poker in 2020 due to covid, but that sadly only lasted, until lockdowns were lifted around the world.

The hours of enjoyment playing poker offset any frustrations i have ever had, poker has introduced me to new friends, new social settings, has provided me on occasions with some nice tech and holidays, i have and i am still having a blast - i am here, back on site i love since 2018 and have made some great pals along the way.
Its a lifestyle hobby that i have reached peace with, i am never going to make it big because a lot of me doesn't want to, i did once but life and quality of life outside poker is way more important to me.

Time passes and poker is the same, the longer you play, the more experience and skills you have. But I would go back in time anyway.

I still miss our live games 20 years ago. It was just great. Win or lose, it didnt matter. Great memories.
Online poker tho, its different case. I could have been less naive about that.

Unfortunately if you are in debt you need to stick to playing freerolls only. Once you are out of debt and have some money to spare you need to establish a poker bankroll and only play within the limits you can afford. :)

Definitely yes. You can't bring back time, but memories are priceless and poker gave me a great trip in my life.

It's a difficult decision, maybe a 51 vs 49%, but I think I would prefer to not know about poker. Or at least I should have quit after Black Friday of poker. Before BF, I think it was worth to spend your time playing the game because you could win way more money than nowadays, even if you only played freerolls and micro/small stakes like I used to do you could have a very nice extra income from poker. Nowadays, for the amount you can win playing freerolls and micro/small stakes I don't think it's worth my time, so, I only play when I really have nothing else to do.
