I figured it was time I made my own cash game thread. Soo, here we go!

Currently I'm grinding full ring 100nl at Bovada and I stick to 50BI. I have dabbled in 200nl and will move up when my roll allows. Most of my volume is at full ring but I sometimes play a little 6 max and plan to get more experience there as well. Sadly I may have only ever seen 200 hands live but I'm hoping to work on that. I've been playing at Bovada for a couple of years now but I've only been playing cash since June last year. Having played strictly turbo SNG's in the past I didn't exactly warm to cash games quickly but once I learned a little patience I realized that I like the cash tables a lot than tournaments.

Here are some of the results I've managed over the past several months.

attachment.php

A bit swingy in the first half but I'm a bit of a newbie so that's to be expected. Overall I've won at 4bb/100. In the second half I'm winning at almost 8bb/100. It's not a very big sample but I'm confident that I have made some improvements over the last 60k hands and I will continue to work hard to improve all of the time as I grind onward!

My Goals:

1) Hours/week
A:35 B:30 C:25

2) Mentor someone
A: start someone who is brand new to the game B: sweat sessions
C: give regular feedback to those posting hands in the forum

3) Seek coaching
A: paid coaching B: sweat sessions C: posting tough spots and talking theory in the forums

4) BR by 2017
A: 500nl

Hopefully posting my goals here will help to keep me motivated and honest! I'll post updates regularly!

I already keep a private poker journal where I track my successes, failures, future plans and grievances. I plan to treat this thread as a type of public journal where I can do much of the same. And I invite you all to join in as well! I'll definitely be posting hands and talking about spots and poker theory but all conversations are welcome!

I'm looking forward to following along.

What is the distinction between A/B/C? Is "A" the best possible scenario, while B & C are acceptable alternatives?

Can you elaborate on the reasons you have chosen to focus on cash games, despite having so much SNG experience?

In, good luck.

Why full ring? Whats your win rate like? I used to play full ring but I really like the hands/hour of 6 max and got super bored of the nitty nature of FR.

The goals are like that because I like to set high goals but a downside to that is that when they're too hard to reach it can me demotivating. So I set high medium and low goals instead. I am still shooting for the A goals though.

There are two main reasons I like cash better. Firstly, I can move up in stakes as my BR allows but the turbo sng's at bovada only get action up to the $28 level. The other reason is because there is less variance in cash games, I don't mind that lol.

In, good luck.

My winrate from that entire sample is 4bb/100. I prefer full ring because I assume it to be easier than 6max. I only really play 6max when I can't get four full ring tables going. I adjust ok I think but I don't have a large sample at 6max and I'm not as confident there as I am at full ring. I hope to start playing it more in order to hone my skills but in the long run I'm going to play whatever I think will be most profitable.

I'm down nearly a BI halfway through my first session. I haven't played any spots I've been particularly dissatisfied with but this hand stung a bit..

iPoker - $1 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 98.4 BB (VPIP: 9.33, PFR: 5.33, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 75)
SB: 82.01 BB (VPIP: 13.33, PFR: 6.67, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 75)
BB: 20.02 BB (VPIP: 34.21, PFR: 5.26, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 38)
UTG: 100 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 5)
Hero (UTG+1): 110.07 BB
MP: 101.94 BB (VPIP: 25.68, PFR: 18.92, 3Bet Preflop: 4.35, Hands: 75)
MP+1: 85.81 BB (VPIP: 40.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 5)
MP+2: 100.63 BB (VPIP: 37.84, PFR: 8.11, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 74)
CO: 34.91 BB (VPIP: 54.55, PFR: 27.27, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 11)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has K K

fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, MP+2 calls 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold

Flop: (7.5 BB, 2 players) 5 9 3
Hero bets 4 BB, MP+2 calls 4 BB

Turn: (15.5 BB, 2 players) 7
Hero bets 10 BB, MP+2 calls 10 BB

River: (35.5 BB, 2 players) A
Hero checks, MP+2 bets 21 BB, fold

MP+2 mucks 8 7 (One Pair, Sevens)

MP+2 wins 54.75 BB

I decided to fold because he was playing a lot of hands so I figured he would have a lot of two pairs, sets and possibly a straight on the turn. He had only called 1/7 turn bets so far so i knew he had at the very least a pair. He is the type to play all sorts of ace rags so I wasn't happy about the ace at all. I didn't think he'd be betting so light here with the ace on the river but he went ahead and got me to fold..

Very odd bet but I like the fold. How are you liking the Ipoker settings on the card catcher? I hated that it would make me have to start a new database, redo my hud and there is no preferred seating options. The latter made me go back to PS settings. For full ring it is probably not too bad though but organizing a hud while switching tables semi often at 6 max is annoying.

Do you think there is any merit to betting on the River, instead of checking?

Oh, and did your opponent show their hand?

The card catcher is working very well for me. I did have to setup the HUD again but it wasn't a big deal. I didn't even realize that there were preferred seating options lol. I don't have a 6max HUD setup so when I do play I have to drag the stats all over the place to get them right.

I felt pretty content with the fold but I indeed had the best hand. He showed 87s. I think there's an argument for bet/folding. But the counter would be that worse isn't calling and better isn't folding so then check calling becomes the better of the two options, no?

Against a more sticky/aggressive opponent I wouldn't mind check calling here. But up until this point he was very passive and nearly always gave up on the turn. I wanted to call but I was so sure I was beat. Also, I'm not sure he's bluffing here often enough to make calling check/calling good necessarily.

I don't know what you mean about the player pool but I think the answer is no. I play at Bovada.

Player pools are the same across networks. Maybe it's not the case for all networks, but, for example, Winning Poker Network sites--including America's Cardroom and Black Chip Poker--share player pools. I think Devowned is referring to the mention of "iPoker settings", because Titan Poker is part of the iPoker Network. I am also not familiar with what you mean by "iPoker settings". I'm assuming "card catcher" refers to the Ace Poker Solutions software.

I also play on bovada, 100 and 200 zone.. I can't figure out how to get my hands converted for the forums. I use online poker manager and can see all the HHs in there. How do u convert it?

Ok I see. I don't actually play on the ipoker network. Yup yup, APS and the Bovada Card Catcher imports them this way to make it compatible with pt4

Thanks for the sub dude :)

Yeah, I think you're right. He wasn't very aggressive so b/f was probably best.

I'm not sure how to convert them on HM. I use pt4. You can probably youtube it though.

I'm having a pretty good day so far. Up like 3.5BI, most of it thanks to this cooler here. Plays itself, I'm just happy to be on the winning end of this one lol.

Is it possible your opponent wasn't bluffing? Could they have been going for some crazy value bet, having assumed--mistakenly or otherwise--that your check was an obvious surrender? I don't even know if that makes sense, but I have had players do similar things to me, even when an Ace type of river doesn't show up. Could your table image lead a passive player to assume that you were the one bluffing on the prior streets? I'm not really asking with respect to how the hand played out. I'm just curious if you think this could be a possibility.
