The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is heading to Atlantis Paradise Island this winter after a record-breaking summer in Las Vegas.
Fittingly known as WSOP Paradise, the new series will feature 15 bracelet events and a total guaranteed prizepool of $50 million. The action gets underway inside Atlantis Casino on December 3 and will continue until December 14.
Topping the list of tournaments will be a $5,000 main event with a $15 million guaranteed prizepool. Also on the provisional WSOP Paradise schedule are two high rollers, a mystery bounty event, and some tournaments for Pot Limit Omaha players.
WSOP Paradise to continue record-breaking run
More details are set to follow, but the WSOP and its partner, GGPoker, are planning to make it poker’s biggest winter festival.
“The summer was an unprecedented success, but the vision is equally as ambitious for WSOP Paradise. We have the strongest online partner in the world. Atlantis also has a great legacy in poker, and we believe this combination of partners can deliver poker’s most powerful new franchise,” said Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of the WSOP.
GGPoker has pledged to send at least 1,000 qualifiers to WSOP Paradise. Those who win their way to the Bahamas will get a main event seat, flights, accommodation, and other perks. The final touches are still being applied to the satellite schedule and, moreover, the WSOP Paradise schedule as a whole.
However, we do know some of the tournaments players can enter in December and they are:
- $5,000 WSOP Paradise main event ($15 million guaranteed)
- $100,000 super high roller ($5 million guaranteed)
- $50,000 high roller ($2 million guaranteed)
- $25,000 GGMillion$ signature event ($10 million guaranteed)
- $1,500 mystery bounty event ($5 million guaranteed)
Battle of the winter warmers
More events will be added in due course, but already there are plenty of attractive options for bracelet-hunting poker players. The problem some will have, however, is which winter warmer to attend. WSOP Paradise will go head-to-head with the WPT World Championship series at the Wynn Las Vegas.
What’s more, there will be another PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2024. Having three major series taking place in a short space of time shows the poker industry’s strength right now, but it means players are faced with tough decisions.
Some will have the money and means to attend all the big events, but others will have to allocate their time and resources to only one. That’s not a bad problem to have as competition ultimately leads to more value for poker players.
Those who value WSOP bracelets and tropical conditions may opt for the Paradise series. Those who were swayed by the record-breaking action at the Wynn Las Vegas last December will opt for the WPT World Championship. Overall, the latest announcement is a positive for tournament players and poker in general.
