A Brazilian waxes her opponents for her first World Series of Poker bracelet, an Australian win his first World Poker Tour title down under, and a mixed game festival in Las Vegas are some of the short stacks CardsChat picked up in its latest orbit of poker news
Australia’s James Obst is the winner of the World Poker Tour Australia Championship. It was the first WPT title for the 2024 World Series of Poker Seven-card Stud Champion, which was his second bracelet. Obst, an Adelaide, Aus. native, won AUD $585,359 ($398,512) for winning the event that brought in 300 entries and 96 rebuys for AUD $8,000.
“It’s honestly just insane. It’s happened too quick to process it,” Obst told the WPT following his victory. “I’m thankful for all the support that my friends showed off and got in the photos with me, and everyone who’s reached out afterwards to congratulate me. Yeah, just feeling fantastic.”
Held at The Star Gold Coast casino in Queensland, the players generated a prize pool of AUD $2,930,400 ($1,995,016). The top 50 were paid.
Saliba scores her first
Brazil’s Vivian Saliba scored her first WSOP bracelet in a €2,000 Pot-limit Omaha event in at King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. She won $101,454 for outlasting 228 entries. The win pushed her tourney bounty up over the $1 million mark.
Saliba is an 888poker ambassador with a handful of WSOP finals tables under her belt. Her best cash was for $308,000 for fourth in the $888 buy-in event in 2019. This is her second best score.
Mixed Game Festival IX back in Las Vegas
The ninth version of CardPlayer Lifestyle’s Mixed Game Festival returns to Las Vegas Nov. 3-19, and for the first time, it’s partnering and piggybacking with PokerStars and its relaunched North American Poker Tour. Three of the 36 NAPT events, which will carry buy-ins of $550 and $5,300, are H.E.R.O.S., will be part of the Mixed Game Festival IX.
As usual, Resorts World will hold special mixed game cash games throughout the series.

PokerStars in the states is currently running step satellites where players win passes to NAPT events. Lucky players can win a pass for free, as the site gives all its members a 50-cent entry into its first step each day they log on.
October is PLO month on the PokerGO Tour
The high-rolling PokerGO Tour (PGT) will hold a series featuring nothing but Pot Limit Omaha events at its studios in the ARIA in Las Vegas October 12-23. The nine-event series will feature buy-ins from $5,100 up to the $25,200, which limits the number of buy-ins to two. All the other tourneys have unlimited rebuys.
The series rolls right into a PokerGO’s Super High Roller Bowl series. While the events are almost exclusively no limit hold’em, a $100,500 Pot Limit Omaha event will take place Oct. 24. A $10,100 satellites to this event takes place the day before.
