“Texas Hold’em” shoots to top

The pop singer Beyonce made history this month when her new single “Texas Hold’em” debuted on top off the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, the first time that honor went to a black woman. The song was released alongside another country song during the Super Bowl, and just like that, was streamed more than 2 million times. It’s approaching 7 million views as I type this out.

The song is not about the game of poker, but uses the game as a central image to kick off each verse.

“This ain’t Texas (woo), ain’t no hold ’em (hey)
So lay your cards down, down, down, down”

888poker upgrades site globally

The online poker client 888poker revamped its desktop software this month, which will provide a cleaner look and give players more features.

The change affects players outside the US who play on Mac and Windows platforms. The new features being touted by 888poker include new bigger tables and avatars for those who don’t see too well, more throwable objects whenever some luck-sack sucks out, and better table tournament statistics for those who actually take the game seriously.

Nick Eastwood and Ian Simpson made a video for 888poker outlining the changes:
