At long last, PokerStars is back in the Wolverine State for the first time since Black Friday in 2011 as Michigan’s first legal poker site. FOX Bet, a mobile sports betting platform powered by the Fox Corporation, is partnering to bring online poker to Michigan.
The state legalized online gambling late in 2019 and, as of Friday, the online casinos are officially in operation. Michigan is a huge pick up for the US poker industry given the state’s sizable population (10 million).
Poker isn’t the only form of gambling approved in the Wolverine State. Sports betting, blackjack, table games, and slots will also be offered in the Stars Casino, which is the first internet casino to launch in the land of the Maize and Blue.
Michigan becomes the fifth state with legal internet poker sites in operation, joining Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. PokerStars is also available in two of those states — Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
PokerStars Brings World-Class Reputation to Michigan
PokerStars is the world’s largest online poker site, and the most popular one. But, it should be noted that players in Michigan will only be competing against others within the state, not on the global platform. Still, having that major online poker brand in another US state is huge for poker players in America.
FOX Bet brings its world-class sports betting platform to the equation. The partnership, which also includes the Stars Casino, makes for a dynamic internet gambling experience.
“The key differentiators for us have always been our valued partnership with the FOX Corporation and the strength of our industry-leading FOX Bet Super 6 product combined with the PokerStars business, and we plan to lean into these unique assets as we launch in Michigan,” said Kip Levin, FOX Bet CEO, in a press release. “Behind FOX Bet Sportsbook, PokerStars, and Stars Casino, customers create one account for all three apps, unlocking a wide variety of exciting and entertaining options to supercharge the experience for our Michigan audience.”
On PokerStars, players can expect cash games, tournaments, and sit n go’s. The annual COOP (Championship of Online Poker Series) will also be available, along with numerous other events.
