Millions Online has been a success since it launched in 2018. The inaugural Millions Online was a single event offering a $20 million prize pool. Despite a slow start, it went on to surpass its record-breaking guarantee to become the biggest online tournament in history at that time.
The $20 million guarantee returned in 2019 and, once again, a late flurry of buy-ins helped the prize pool reach $21 million. A break in 2020 was followed by a new structure in 2021. An additional 27 tournaments were added alongside a $5 million guaranteed main event.
Reduced guarantee, increased variety
The main event guarantee has been reduced again this year, but the number of tournaments has increased. Giving away NFTs should also help generate some interest in the series, despite the crypto market being in a slump.
Crypto and NFT fever peaked at the tail-end of 2021 and the markets have been bearish for much of 2022. Despite that, NFT technology remains a prospect for the future.
Are NFTs as desirable as they were a few months ago? No, but their time can come again. Indeed, with NFTs from the Bored Apes collection still worth millions, the market is far from dead.
Poker operators, including the WSOP, have embraced NFTs and now Partypoker has made them a selling point. That means winners of Millions Online MTTs will not only bank some cash, but will also receive an asset that could increase in value over the coming years.
