Daniel Negreanu booked a $50,000 win in a high-stakes cash game on “Poker After Dark” Tuesday as Poker Central unveiled its new, state-of-the-art PokerGo Studio outside the Aria on the Las Vegas Strip.
Poker Central’s new studio, which features a television table and seating for a live audience, is the first permanent studio for the poker media company that launched in 2015 and has been streaming live events from the Aria Resort and Casino.
The new facility is located in front of the Aria, facing Las Vegas Boulevard, and opens just in time for the upcoming World Series of Poker and summer tournament series across Las Vegas.
Kid Poker Crushes Tough Table
On the first night of “Open House” week on “Poker After Dark,” Negreanu dominated a table that included Eli Elezra, Maria Ho, Brandon Adams, Jeremy Kaufman, Alan Richardson, and recent WPT Bellagio Elite Poker Championship winner Larry Greenberg.
The game was $100/$200 no-limit hold’em with a $200 big blind ante on every hand. Players bought in for $40,000. Out of that tough lineup, Kid Poker was the biggest winner, taking home more than $50,000 in profit.
Negreanu’s run of good fortune began early in the session against Kaufman, known as a loose player, when he hit a full house.
DNegs, holding 2♣2♦, bet out $1,500 with a set on the J♦2♥7♠ flop. Kaufman, in position, floated the flop with A♠10♦. The J♠ on the turn gave Negreanu an unbeatable full house and he fired out another $5,000 bet.
As he does often to the pleasure of his high-stakes opponents, Kaufman made a questionable call, perhaps thinking ace-high was good against a player who raised pre-flop, bet the flop, and then bet the turn.
The river 10♠ was a horrible card for Kaufman as it gave him a false sense of hope. Negreanu went for maximum value and put his opponent all-in for $23,000.
“With that spade on the river, you’d have to be concerned about something,” Kaufman said as he pondered his decision. “I mean, maybe not. There’s a lot of money in there. I gotta call. I call.”
Daniel turned over his hand and showed Kaufman the same bad news he’s received many times during his televised and livestreamed poker career.
Old-School Superstars
There will be no shortage of banter when “Open House” week continues on Wednesday at 3 pm on the PokerGo app. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth, and Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari will join the table, three poker boom era legends.
Matusow announced on Twitter he will only be playing for three hours as he refuses to miss the Vegas Golden Knights hockey game. The Knights face Winnipeg at the T-Mobile Arena, a five-minute walk from Aria, at 6 pm Wednesday for Game 3 of the NHL’s Western Conference Finals. The best-of-seven series is tied after two games.
