Poker player Mohsin Charania caused an uproar when his tweet about Game of Thrones came off as anti-white. I give my thoughts on that issue in this edition of the CardsChat Poker Podcast, along with the growing rumors that the WSOP is moving out of the Rio soon, and Annie Duke, for some reason, just won’t go away.
Charania’s tweet wasn’t received well by many, except Justin Bonomo, on Twitter. Most felt said comment was anti-white and that he was being racist. But Bonomo was there to defend him, claiming “all white people” are oppressors and that those who are privileged “can all do better.”
Doug Polk, on the other hand, was offended by Charania’s apparent joke. He doesn’t appreciate being singled out as a white person. Most Twitter users who commented agreed with his viewpoint.
Will the Rio Be Demolished?
Rumors that the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will soon be sold and then demolished have intensified in recent days thanks to a report from Scott Roeben of the Vital Vegas lifestyle blog. He claims the sale could happen as early as this summer.
If his sources are correct, that means Caesars would have to find a new venue for the World Series of Poker. I give my two cents on whether or not we should even believe the rumors. I also rant about Annie Duke and she’s improperly characterized by the non-poker mainstream media.
