When does it get to expensive to call J8 suited form the SB with a 2x the pot raise???

5% of your Pot?
10% of your Pot?
15% of your Pot?

I am really trying to learn here.

I had some guy that called my 2x pot bet with J8 suited.

Sure it was only 10% of his stack. But, he only had 100 in the pot. And it was costing him another 500 to call.

Would you have called here??????

No way, I wouldn't call with that. Basically you're hoping for two things here, either to hit your Jack high flush, or to hit a Jack. EVen if you do hit your Jack you'll have to wonder if the person who raised perhaps has one with a higher kicker, and there's a big chance that an overcard will come and you'll have to decide further. There's just not enough going to work with J-8, UNLESS you feel it is a player you can most likely outplay, or who has been raising most of the nite only to fold on the flop when they don't hit. Then it could be worth it.

errrr really depends on table position and how many players are left. Shorthanded it is worth playing. Normal table prolly not

we had a full table and it was just me and him seeing the flop. I still think it was a bad play on his part. As chip leader I like to be the one doing the pushing. And I only push back if it is a good opportunity. This guy had neither.

Like I said. The only reason I called it was to verify that I was right.

I was 99% sure I was beat.

But, it was a freeroll. And frankly when I lose to that kind of hand I really just see as wasted to playing in that tourney anyway. Because where one player like that is. There are usually others doing the same thing he is. And it isn't worth even making decent bets. it's easier to just call and play the flop cheap.

There is always another freeroll to find.

One of the hardest concepts for alot of players to learn is that once those chips are in the pot they no longer are yours, most new players are basically in for a penny in for a pound! They think they since they are already invested that they need to go ahead and throw some more loot at the pot. J8 suited heads up is not a strong hand. The guy wasn't a skilled player if he was he would have dumped because with just you and him in the hand, the pot odds in no way justified that call! Remember once that bet is in the pot it is no longer yours it belongs to the pot! Base your calls, folds, and raises on the POT not what you already have invested! No such thing as being pot commited unless all your chips are out there

well to me it just depends, i've always been lucky when my possiblitys are better with flush or st draw, thats why u really can't master this game cause people go in on what ever they want. i've lost on pocket As to some guy holding 2 and 8 not sut. and not just once.

Every situation is different but most of the time I'm not calling and extra 500 with only 100 invested in pot with j8 suited. But if I knew I could outplay the player a high % of time then yeah I make the call and put some pressure on them

I almost never call with “J8” on the small blind. Exceptions: when my opponent's stack is no more than 3 big blinds, or when there is no player on the big blind, or when I have stack of more than 50 big blinds and there are 4-5 players in the game. As you can see, the situations are different. But this is the worst position at the table to play on the board, so I rarely play with these cards.
