Sometimes cardchat games in 888 tend to have late reg (accidentally) though ...that's why I like the Cardschat freerolls, there is no late reg, no rebuy, everyone starts under the same conditions.
My poker experience isn't that great yet, but I feel like I'm more successful with a latereg. I play with shortstack more aggressively, it often ends quickly (then you don't have a lot of time spent) but if successful, there will be a lot of chips that will take you far forward.

Late registration can be good in bounty tournaments, I usually enter 20 minutes or so before the end. The big fish will be at the beginning of the tournament, and the chances of me doubling my chips are higher and if I register late these fish have already been caught, so my preference is to enter at the beginning of the tournament.
