I'm all for taking chances once in a while (depending on my frame of mind), but I'd be the first to admit it was a terrible call, and just got lucky.

Well its on FTP, it always seems to me that as long as you have more chips you have a greater chance of winning a hand. But thats just my opinion, nice and risky call. :)

My money is on "My cards are probably live. And I'm suited. And they connect."

If he could do some magic soul-seeking and somehow put his opponent on his opponents hand, this is the same as calling with QJs, is it not?

All he has to know is his opponent didn't have a pair - of which there is no way of knowing.

Not that I am defending the call. However - this may have been what he was thinking, which is exactly what Blackmax did not know.

HA Ha ha..... I'm surprised you actually posted this hand here (I recall you saying you were going to, believing it would spark an interesting debate about it).
All I can say is.... -EV. Do I want to take -EV plays in a tournament? Nope. therefore.... 'bad call'.
The only benefit I can see for making a call like this is that your SS opponents on the table will have noted that you're willing to call really wide w/o odds to do so which may or may not tighten up their shoving ranges. (in other words... you might get your blinds stolen less often, lol).

The other only somewhat interesting thing I can derive from the 'call' here is... the stuff my opponents are thinking when they're making a call/shove/fold in certain situations... why they do what they do (ie. is villain ICM dumb... or is villain ICM knowledgeable, etc., etc.).

Really? Bless us with your thinking processes please... especially the 'many' part.
Could've one of the many be....
'the heater just fell off in my lap & I was pissed so I pressed 'call''
'I get a perverse sense of pleasure from donking someone... I saw 32, so I figured... what better hand to call & try to f them with'
'The girlfriend told me she wanted me off of her computer... I started having a tantrum so I took it out on my opponent and clicked call'
'I just took a big haul off of a sample of some new bud a bud gave to me.... snickered to myself looking down at 32 and made the call'
' I just took a big haulf off of a sample of some new bud a bud gave to me, looked down and saw 32... incorrectly calculated my odds as getting 2.7to1 and made the call'
'I just took a big haul off a sample of some new bud a bud gave to me... looked down and saw 3-3....and made the call... oh-oh.. ha ha ha... DAMN... it's not 3-3 man... it's 3-2... sheeeeet.... oh well I'll pretend I knew it was 32 and make up something about wanting to start up a good discussion of a HandHistory' (I'll decide what'll be good about it later.... the bud I was hauling off of.... or umm.... the list of reasons I went over in my head for making the call... umm... what were they again??)

mathematically almost correct call if you were sure that he has 2 overcards, but if he showed a pair - it would be impossible to win..

Reasoning:

865 to win 1265 when you have about 40% chance to win... Not really terrible , but how did you know he does not have for example 55 ??

Its a call you should only make with twice your chips. With 10,000 chips you'd basically only be risking 1/10th of your stack and it would hurt a lot less if you lost. Really its only a good idea when you're close to the money to take shots at the short stacks like that imo.

Not Bad

Not a bad call at all m8, almost guaranteed to have 2 live cards, against e.g. ak, aq, aj, kq, kj, etc.
yh i would have called it, great chance to get 1000 chips and get started in the freeroll.
And you always need a bit of luck to win a freeroll
where did u finish btw?

honestly i wouldnt have made the call, but im not going to pound you bad comments, poker is skill AND luck, if you made the call and won, props out to you, just know, that it wont happen like that everytime, next time take the fold, let him get the little blinds, and take him out when you have the AK:)

I seem to remember a few years ago we had a competition about getting screenshots of various hands, one was to win an "All In" with 8 4 off suit. Quite a few of us got screenshots of our wins (mostly because everyone at the table folded, the rest were all dumb luck like this hand. lol.)

To this day I still think of 84 off suit as the Jack Daniels special. :p

unnecessary

if you lost that hand you would have lost half of your stack mid point of the tourny on a all in call, in bad position it looks like and that someone could have reraised you all in almost making you commited with 23 suited
:hmmmm:

It was called CC Scavengerhunt, and the 8 4 os shove was just to remind us how twisted JD really is. :p

I actually like the call. You already had 160 in the pot. Let's say you put your opponent on over cards - NOT AN OVERPAIR - and at most with AK. 2c3c is only about a 40/60 underdog to AKo. It will only cost you 865 to win 2130 (the pot odds are about even) and more importantly eliminate an opponent and get closer to the money.(A form of implied odds, lol) Great call.
