Hi forum,

I was playing a small $22 MTT. And I am short since we're ITM (13 places paid).

We're now on FT since other stacks clashed into each other and there's a (now super) shortie who seems to be folding everything.

It seems to have worked for him, since he survived two pay jumps (similar to me).

So we're down to 6 players. I recently doubled up when I became the shortest stack and now sitting with the incredible stack of 7.5 BBs while the shortie has only 3.5 BBs after paying the blinds recently.

I am MP with AKs. Current payout is 78$ while 5th place pays $106.

I think I have some fold equity since playing rather tight and shortie seems to be folding until he's forced all-in, so I jammed.

Was this okay within the ICM considerations? Any opinions?

What were the other stacks? I can see you getting called/reshoved pretty wide if you aren't significantly damaging them.

This can't be a horrible mistake surely? Yes you may ladder one pay spot, but better off take the chance to get right back into the game and a chance of top 3 spots? You aren't far off being shorty again if BB doubles at any point?

If you can post stacks maybe we can get it in a solver and all learn from this spot.

Yeah we need the complete action prior to your jam, stack sizes of those with action remaining and the payouts for the other 4 spots.

Having AKs at this phase stage with 7,5BB I think it's the right play, the pay jumps aren't so big imho.

Thanks all for your opinions!

I realized there's again one free ICMizer per day, so I went to look up the payouts, stacks and hand details and plugged it into the solver.

For anyone interested, here are the results. I'll post it in the spoiler, so anyone interested can still leave their opinion without any additional info :)

So, ICM wise it was a good decision. I am surprised the push range is not much different to what I'd expect further away from ITM. These are the detailed results:
1738332466885

Here's the link: https://www.icmizer.com/icmizerapp/#asbukL

So if we exclude the minor +EV spots, the push range would be something like 77+, AT+.

As you might imagine, I busted since BB called with JJ and nothing for me on the board. Shortie finished 5th for his $106.

Nice one sharing as a study(y)

In game I wouldn't have been too troubled getting it in from an ICM perspective, but I do tend to blunder in these spots. The way I'd look at is if shorty doesn't bust in the next two orbits and possibly even doubles, I'm in big trouble anyway and would rather take a gamble to really get back into this game rather than a non-guarenteed ladder up. Expect to get called wide by the big stack, but we have good equity and we are protected by him, middling stacks need to be very careful.

I wonder if it's worth starting an ICM spot thread? People can post their ICM spots and solves on a regular basis. I think looking at these is great for your late game to improve intuition at the table 👍👍

7.5BBs with AKs is a shove all day. The likelihood of getting a better hand in the next few hands is slim.

Personally, I'm not worried about pay jumps at the final table in a tourney like this. I play to win, and going all in here would give the better chance to build a stack back. I rather go out in 6th place knowing I made the right move, than blind out to 5th place with no other chance to improve.

I checked the spoiler cuz I'm nosy...., but my answer is still the same,

I mean there's not much dif between 7.5 and 3.5..., not that I haven't waited out a bubble

in my time but folding AKs here is nuts .....so buckle up we're going👍
