It may help you learn more quickly by including your thinking in these hand posts----On the turn why did you call? The 1 card we did not want to see came and our V bet. Why are you calling? If you think the BB is bluffing what are they bluffing? What did they 3 bet pre-X flop and lead Turn with that we are ahead of? If you share your thoughts, then I can help you with how to think about this spot. Otherwise I would say fold turn - check river.:geek:

It was fishy from the start when he min 3-bet, on the turn I did called just because I showed weakness on the flop by not betting when he checked (I think I should have bet there on the flop ). Also in this private tournaments most of the players have no clue of poker. Indeed when he 3-bets me preflop his range contains most of Ax, I guess I made a gut call there. I liked my odds even with an A on the turn.

Why would he check the river there?

Great thank you for sharing your thoughts. 👍

You ask---Why would he check the river there? Earlier you state "most of the players have no clue of poker" that is why.
We do not want to confuse ourselves by asking why, a V who does not know what they are doing, are doing a thing.
The question we want to ask on this river is--do I bet or check? Will I be called by more worse hands than better ones?
If no then we check and showdown because seeing what the V was doing in this spot has huge future value.

Was the V using the A as a bluff card? Did they check back a weak A because you could have 1? What hand wanted to small 3 bet?
There is a common misconception in poker study regarding passing up on EV on rivers. It comes from limit hold-em and it assumes a level of skill by your V.
You are playing NL vs very bad players -check back avoid the scared Ax check and use the data to crush the V in later hands.
