This game was POORLY officiated (and that's understating it). Both teams were handcuffed by the refereeing, probably Gonzaga more so than North Carolina because it basically took their best player, Zach Collins, out of the game entirely. He was a total non-factor.
This was NOT the NCAA's finest hour at all. Both teams are so much better than what they displayed tonight, and the commentating team of Sean McDonough and Dick Vitale were right in being so critical of the officiating. I had no rooting interest in the game really, though it would have been nice to see Gonzaga win. Good officials, regardless of the sport are barely noticeable, but that most definitely NOT the case in this game.
That said, North Carolina was able to overcome the heartbreak of losing last year's game on a last second shot to win, and are worthy champions. I'm sure there's a lot of Tar Heel fans here that are celebrating tonight, though it was probably a VERY nerve-wracking game to watch.
