IDK how exactly how the betting works. Like (this is at Bovada):

4:25p 433 Denver Broncos -9 -380 57 (-110)o

434 Dallas Cowboys +9 +290 (-110)u

I think in the last one, you pick the final score (57) combined. IDK who you bet on to get what. In the 1st one, there is a 9 pt spread but who do I pick if I think the Broncos will beat that spread??? Duh, Broncos? The -380 and +290, no idea what that is.

Not sure where this thread would belong. Not exactly sports, and that place gets little action compared to here. I used to bet a lot more frequently, but I'm a little rusty. hehe Anyway, thanks much in advance.

+/-9 is the line on the game, so if you thought the Broncos will beat that spread (they didn't - go figure :p) you'd bet on Broncos -9.

What you basically do is take the team's final score, then either add (or subtract) the margin you gave them. So in this case Broncos -9 would have lost, because it would've changed the final score from 51-48 Broncos to 48-42 Cowboys.

With the final combined score you're just betting on whether you think it'll be over or under (57 in this case, and betting the over would have won).

-380/+290 is the bit that does my head in because it's completely different to how we price sports bets over here. It's basically the odds for betting on the team straight for the win. A negative number means that team is the favourite, I just don't know off the top of my head how you translate that number into what they're going to pay if they win.

-380 means you have to bet $380 to win $100. Bet Broncos at -380 to win with $380, you got back $480 today.

+290 means you bet $100 to win $290. So, if the Cowboys won, and you bet $100 on Cowboys you would get back $390.

Ah - right. Over here we just have a price saying how much you'll get paid for every dollar you bet if your team wins.

I had Denver at $1.32 today, for example, so for every dollar I bet on them I got $1.32 back. Say I bet $100 on them, I would've gotten $132 back.

So lets see if I'm getting this right: if I had've bet $100 on Denver at -380, I would've gotten what... $100 / 3.8 = $26.32 + my initial hundred back for $126.32 total?

Are you able to watch the games in Australia? Or do you live in the U.S. now?

Nope, I'm still in Australia. They show some of the games on free to air TV here, but it's a moot point anyway because pretty much all the games are on while I'm at work. Thursday night games are Friday daytime here, Sunday day/night games are super-early in the morning or during the day on Monday, and Monday night football is on when I'm at work on Tuesday.

So mostly I just follow the games watching the drive chart on NFL.com in the background at work :p

I take a Monday off every year to watch the Superbowl though.
