Until this year, we here in SoCal had the best of all football worlds, with USC a perennial powerhouse, an the cross town rival UCLA the perennial wannabe's. And we got both teams games every week on free TV. Usually even when they were unsold out and at home! .. This is one of the major reasons that L.A. still doesn't have a PRO NFL team. We really didn't need it.

I am familiar with both USC, and UCLA, sort of intimately, as I used to fix computers on both campus's. UCLA is much prettier BTW. USC is a much more utilitarian campus.

In the last few years the old PAC 10 has grown to the PAC 12 with 2 divisions, north and south. Unnecessary IMO, but done none the less. The big change this year is that the greedy bastards have taken over! They have taken control of all TV broadcasts, and created their own TV network, which they intend to sell to the TV providers for outrageous fees. Net effect is that we are seeing few PACX games, and worse, the local newspapers are not even showing us the PACX standings. General reporting for our own local college games are provided by out of PACX area newgroups, and the reporting is piss poor.

Those greedy bastards, will suffer a very unintended consequence. The overall temperature of great football fans in SoCal was that we did not need a PRO team, because we had the PACX, and got to see many many PRO teams from across the country and since SoCal is such a melting pot, we provided many fans for many different teams. This was a great marketing thing for the NFL, products, rich fans buying distant seats...ect. etc.

The PACX decisions will lead to a general disgruntlement with the greedy bastards, and a slight shift in the sentiment FOR a pro team in L.A. And it will only take this 'slight' shift to tip the scales in favor of a pro team here. Up till very recently, except for the diehards, the general consensus about a pro team here was 'eh'!

In the meantime, I have not seen in print a PACX standings all season. Each weekend I get EVERY OTHER FOOTBALL CONFERENCE in America's standings, but not the PACX.

Oh, BTW, I use PACX here because of rumors about adding still more teams to the conference over the next few years.

OK, got that major life gripe off my chest......
