NBA basketball Thread 2022/2023

It's that time of the year again as the NBA is back for another season. This time, we have a very strong defending champions Warriors team going into the season, but the usual contenders are also still there: Celtics, Suns, Bulls, Hawks, 76ers, Bucks, Clippers, Nuggets and Grizzlies.

Clippers have George and Leonard back. Pelicans have Williamson back. Cavs picked up Mitchell. Nuggets got Murray back. Blazers got Lillard back. Overall it's looking like it will be a nice season. Oh, and Lakers are still limping their veterans.

We're well underway through the preseason and looking forward to the start of the regular 2022-2023 season.

GSW surprised me a little with this slapping during training, they might not have a big result this year.
We may be smarter after a few sharp games.

The Draymond Green - Jordan Poole situation was unfortunate, but it doesn't look like it affected Poole any. I hope Poole responds by getting stronger, keeping his hands up, and laying Green out the next time he tries to pull something like that, because they are just going to let Green back in and pretend like nothing happened. GSW is a ridiculously stacked team right now though and there will have to be some amazing play by the contenders to avoid a repeat of last season.

Ok, well the Warriors steamrolled the Lakers as expected but the Celtics outplayed the 76ers.. I am a bit surprised with the Celtics, since they were playing without Timelord and still kept Embiid in check. It came down to 76ers just not showing up with defense.

I think I will pick the Lakers tonight against the Clippers. There's uncertainty about KL playing for the Clippers and I don't see them risking injuring him more this early in the season for an opening game. Lakers have Beverley who holds a grudge against the Clippers, who traded him away. I think the Lakers can pull an upset here.

I will also bet 76ers against the Bucks who just haven't been very impressive so far without Middleton.

The games were close but both Lakers and 76ers couldn't get it done. I'm only 3/8 so far on predictions.

Both teams scored a lot of points in their first game, Charlotte 129 and New Orleans 130, so a total score over 230 is not such an impossible guess.

Ouch. Well there you go, 0 for 4 in those predictions. 3/12 in total. I think it's time to add another layer to the predictions. Every time I come to a decision I will also flip a coin and then predict the opposite depending on heads or tails.
