I just saw a horrible upset, As a overly-coc-ky Silva got TKO'd by Chris Weidman.

That scheduled 5 round match only went 2 rounds before the KO. Silva, in what could only be described as an extreme lack of respect for his opponent, danced around and simply dropped his guard in a taunting manner, allowing Weidman to land some solid punches. Then, he also did his little faked "that hit hurt" dance routine a few times, guard dropped. It looked to me like Weidman was just waiting for him to do it one time too many. He didn't have to wait long!

Finally, after a hit by Weidman, Silva did the "that hit hurt" smart azz routine one last time. Weidman took full advantage, pounding Silva hard, who fell backwards to the mat and promptly got pounced on by the new champ.

T.K.O.

This made me mad and feel bad for Weidman. I am sure some will insist that he did not so much beat Silva, as Silva beat himself by dropping his guard on purpose in order to taunt him. I am not trying to take anything away from Weidman, he clearly had the upper hand the first round and more than proved himself. Still, I am sure there will be this kind of talk in the days to come. I really hope not.

Silva said there would not be a rematch for the title, so who knows.

And people are still calling him the greatest fighter of all time... I figure that'll die down soon enough though.

Dana White insists there will be a rematch in the post fight conference. He is taking time off though.

LOL who didn't know that Silva was gonna take a LOL KO just so that there'd be a 2nd fight. UFC=WWE

You know what? After thinking about it, as I am new to UFC; We are really expected to believe that Silva has done this 27 times and only just now got caught...twenty seven successes dropping his guard and letting his opponent hit him...just now this one time it failed...at a time when he has been talking retirement...in a fight so many in the press said was a "sure loss" for Silva...Hmmm.....no, this was not a total set up by Silva at the least, now was it? No, no, the match did not have "WWE scripted event for your pleasure" written all over it, did it?

As far as I am concerned, UFC = WWE; faked, scripted and not at all very believable.

Maybe when Silva "refuses" a rematch, they can have Weidman run over Silva's car with a monster truck, or "kidnap" Silva's wife. Maybe have Silva rise up from a coffin sent to Weidman's home; "Alright, the mighty Silva, back from the grave, will now accept your challenge!"

TOTAL BS.

I just hope he doesn't have to listen to people tell him "Well, Silva just beat himself, you didn't really beat him"

If I were Weidman, I would not even think about a rematch. That might just be what Silva wanted before retiring to make some extra $$. I'd tell him to stick it. I think it would be perfectly acceptable to tell him "win your next nine matches in a row like I had to, in order to get my chance to fight you, then we will talk."

Wish Silva would stop being a dick in the octagon. There was a time when I saw him as the eventual GOAT . . .

Karma took an awfully long time to catch up to him then, because he's been doing that clowing around dropping his guard routine for years (and I may only be a casual UFC observer, but I'm pretty sure it's not 100% clowning and ego either - he really wants his opponents to throw poorly conceived attacks at him while he's doing it so he can counterstrike).

As for suggestions he threw it in order to get big money for a rematch, didn't I read that he'd just signed a new ten-match deal with the UFC? He's Anderson freaking Silva, he's about as big as names get in MMA and if he's in a fight, he'll be getting plenty big money for it. Plus there's other big-money fights available to him where he might not have even had to put his belt on the line (Jon Jones, for example, if that were ever to happen, or any number of other big names at light heavyweight).

Letting the Demain Maia fight go to decision a few years back, that I can believe was rigged (seriously, come up with any other explanation for not finishing a guy who couldn't stand with him and could barely even see after the second round) but Silva losing by TKO for money? Not sure I can buy it. I could be wrong though - like I said, mostly just a casual observer :p

I just base it on this, mostly: How many fights did he dance around, guard dropped, eyes closed, chin out and no one could knock the guy out? Once, twice, ten times? And only now someone has the wherewithal to do it? My grandmother could have knocked him out for goodness sakes. Or I could have, and she could hit harder than me, lol.

It's just too many coincidences. Close to end of fighting career and paycheck from it, close to endorsements winding down and therefore paychecks from it as well, new guy with a good record but not as good as past contenders (did Silva beat someone with a better than 9-0 record? I think he has) beats him in two rounds, Silva's gets cut from pay-per-view, so a rematch would be huge, last chances for any of this....not to mention the whole "go ahead and knock me out" thing. 27 successful matches doing the "I'm hurt" shuffle, only now it backfires.

Mighty odd, if nothing else. I would be more willing to give the man the benefit of doubt had I not seen it with my own eyes.

He tried to dodge the punch. He wasn't able to get far enough out of the way. And it would be more lucrative for Silva to retire undefeated with most casual MMA fans calling him the greatest of all time. He could have commercial deals and crap like that for years after his career ended.

I don't think it was fixed. It wouldn't make much sense on Silva's part. Not like he needs the money.

I am causal fan (at best) when it comes to UFC. Never really seen much of Weidman until the fight. Automatically became a fan because of him coming out to Tom Petty and supporting the american flag. Silva has clowned around in fights before, but nothing like he did Saturday night. At least from what I have scene. Loved watching Weidman get the K/O.

So sponsors would pay as much or more for a retired champ than the new ones who are always in the spotlight? You might be right, but I cannot think of any retired MMA guys still getting deals from Nike, etc.

So he went even more overboard than usual? At least that makes sense and could explain it, although you would not think him to be one to get sloppy. And I gotta give him cred as well, for going against Tom Petty.

It's hard to say as the popularity of MMA has greatly expanded since the last era of "greats." Anderson's popularity is also on a whole other level in brazil, and increases everywhere with each successive win.

Silva - Last fight totally different?

I have never seen a Silva performance quite like the last fight against Weidman. Silva has always been a showboater, a show off, and very ****y, but he did win 17 straight in the UFC with 10 straight title defenses. Now, with that being said, he always pranced around, hands down, making fun, but he always was on the attack, always throwing shots and going after a win. He defends by backing up hands down and making fun but just when guys are coming at him.

The Weidman fight he wasn't trying to attack almost at all, he was backing off making fun and just taunting Weidman to come at him and attack him. Go back and watch his last 5 fights, even against way stronger guys, (Belfort) he steps right up to them and attacks, throws knees, and goes after it. I won't be the guy who says Silva let Weidman win, but something was definitely fishy with this match. Whether it was something unknown to us, like Silva being hurt, or Maybe another reason, something was off!

He may have been hurt. He got taken down and took some heavy shots in the first.

Fishy-ness will increase or decrease as time goes by. I just hope they do not seriously expect me to shell out 54.00 to watch the rematch. I will wait for the book.

For you who say its rigged...get real.moving on.

Saying you feel bad for weidman? He beet the champ when he does what he always does.why was anyone surprised. He always does that and weidman was the first guy to take advantage. Good win.
