I'm 43 and keen on keeping the chub off, cycling is my main hobby along with golf.

I've reduced my mileage and running isn't an option I just break down with an instant injury, guess I'm not built for it.

I'm a fan of youtube and zen dude group popped up with the good old fashioned skipping aka JUMP ROPE

well I'm hooked a simple instructional video on how to do it right and were away, I managed 30 reps on the first day. I'm pretty sure I'd managed two the last time I tried 20 years ago :)

anyone trying it to keep FIT ?

Eat a ton more fresh organic fruits amd vegetabkes and cut the soda ,juice and pre packaged genetically modified foods out and watch you lose more than you thought possible ,add in whatever exercise and you will see huge gains ,i could never lose anything and just gain ,than i started looking into whats in the foods and cutting refined white sugar and salts way back and wow ,add in some juicing or smoothies with lots of fresh fruit and even some small greens added as a daily meal and damn ...lighter than when i was in junior high school and still going for more and can its very shocking

to be fair I'm pretty good, I have a biscuit munch but other than that no soda EVER, I guess the Friday, Saturday beer doesn't help not that I drink much !

I found cardio eg cycling even miles on miles 50-100 miles doesn't shift the guy I've got ripped legs and thin arms but the core section doesn't move !!

Thus the jump rope trial :) quick blast pre breakfast when I wake up gets the system firing, hoping for good things

as for fruit I eat apples and bananas every day with out fail when hungry :) I must use my ninja bullet more.

Yeah use that ninja and make smoothies lots of ice ,splash of juice ,spoon of yougurt and jam in those fruits ,maybe alittle greens like spinach ,or kale ,maybe a carrott ....you hardly know its in there except color wise and it tastes great ,good way to add more to ones diet and tasty too ,just suggestions cause it continues to work for a guy who struggled most of his life even tho athletic :) Thats lots of cardio well done !! Oh and eliptical machines might help the core middle section too and less hard on the joints

May I ask what kind of injuries you are getting from running??

Anthropologically speaking it's the one type of exercise that we are all hardwired to do and its something that comes naturally to us as a species. Injuries related to running are almost always caused by environmental factors such as running surface or unsuitable footwear.

You might find it hard to believe but we are all built for running. And it really is the best, most effective and most enjoyable way of changing you lifestyle as well as losing weight.

I am a fan of lifting weights. I haven't done it in a long time myself, but when I was into it, I found it the easiest way to not only stay in shape but to literally rearrange my shape.

I'm sure you have heard the saying 'You have to walk before you can run' and when it comes to actually taking up running, this is very true, especially as you get older. Sounds like you may be the type to throw yourself right into it.

If you check out a ''couch to 5km'' training plan online or download one of the Apps to your smartphone, they have very good programs that integrate walking and running in the same sessions, gradually building you up to running without stopping. This kind of slow & gradual transition can be difficult for motivated people (which you sound like) but it is worth it believe me.

After hearing that you consistently pick up the same calf strain whenever you try to run, I would also highly recommend having a ''gait analysis'' done. Any specialised running equiptment store should have a machine that will do this for free if you are planning on making a purchase. It measures your footfall pressure on various parts of your foot and will give the sales team an idea of what kind of running shoe would best suit you.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you. There is no better ''drug'' than running. Once it becomes a part of who you are, it really does change your life in so many ways.

Trying the running but using the c25k android App a bit like couch to 5k, walking / running for a few weeks rather than just smashing 3 miles out first run a 8 min miles and failing 3rd run :) sensible Russell
