I am not sure if it is possible to live from sports betting, but I know people who lives very well by offering slightly better odds from the bookies. They have their own sites for betting, pay winnings on regular basis, but instead of the official bookmakers - they do not pay taxes :D :D :D :D

The scheme is very simple, each bet they receive they rebet to the bookmaker, so if someone hit - they are actually cover the winnings from the official bookmaker...

Hi Madd. I would say yes. I know of a friend of mine who used to make a good living from gambling on sports, in the UK, the football (soccer) market is very busy and highly profitable. Needless to say, he made the mistake of trying to set up on his own as a bookmaker, that caught him out because he then moved into horses, greyhounds and got done that way. I think if you want to make a living from any sort of gambling. (and yes I include poker in that) you need to make yourself a set of rules, and stick to them.

Good luck if you try it, trust me it is harder than you think. It's not all fun or a rush

P.s You need to complete your profile, make sure you include any poker site, usernames you may have. :top:

Yes it is possible to make a living from gambling from sports.
It is not what most would think though, just like everything else there is a lot of hard work and effort that needs to be put in it for one to be successful.

Yes you can if you are willing to put in the work. And remember that the highlights you see on TV of people winning big money is not what it is like every day

What would be the hard work and effort involved? If anyone here knows

It is possible I think but you have to know what you are doing and you have to be good at math too. Else you can not make a right choice.

Dude, anyone can live off poker or sports betting but you better be exceptional in each case. For most its just a dream. Just my opinion of course.

A few years ago, on the Gambler's Book Club podcast, the host, Howard Schwartz asked a professional football better how to be successful at sports betting. His answer: Pick up a copy of Ed Miller's "Getting Started in Holdem." The inference was that the average person can be more successful playing poker than betting sports.

Cheers!

I would have said no... but after reading the previous posts I guess I have no idea anymore.

The thing is, it can't be easy at all. Sports are somewhat unpredictable and running into a series of losses must be tough if you don't have another income besides sportsbetting.

It's just not worth the try imo. (Talking about long term)

Way higher chances of becoming a hard gambler and losing everything than actually making a decent living off of it.

However, if you do hit the "jackpot" once, it may serve you for the rest of your life. (if you fit this into your question, that is)

I agree with what FastOne said .... I think even if you know your thing, sometimes results are just different. Also it depends what sports you're betting on.

What would be the hard work and effort involved? If anyone here knows

Daily studying of stats ,injury reports ,when did both teams play last ,home and away trends ,vs that team they are playing ,following all daily activity of sports and teams you are betting ,there actually is a mountain of information to check into daily when betting sports everyday is it possible to make a living ..sure but even if you get hot and win for awhile if you dont put the time into it everyday lomgterm they will get it all realistically .

That's be the hard work involved in researching and then placing your bets.

That second bit, actually placing your bets, isn't always as easy as it sounds either. If you're just an average casual (ie: low stakes, prob losing or break even at best) sports bettor then it's probably not an issue for you. But if you're identified as a big winning player, then sportsbooks tend to limit or ban your accounts so it can be tough to get down the amount of action you want for the lines/prices/markets you want.

FWIW this is absolutely not the way to approach sports betting. It's not the lottery*, and the only way you're ever gonna win some life-changing amount (let's say a million plus) in one hit is if you already had huge sums of money to bet with... in which case you were probably already set for life.

If you're able to do it, profitable sports betting is a grind much like profitable poker. Keep applying small edges repeatedly over time.

* lotteries are, of course, -EV too

there are some pro sports book betters, but its is a morning to night job for sure. I wouldn't suggest it for most people, like being a pro card player.

Yes you can, just do not try to cover your loses with higher bets or higher odds. Stick to a plan and live with it. Set standard bets according to your trust level on any bet you place and let it happen.

Yes - I knew a gentleman in Las Vegas who would carry a duffle bag full of stats and data. He studied relentlessly and would win on a consistent basis. Bankroll management in sports betting is very important as in poker. A very slow process but can build wealth to those who are in it for the long haul.

It depends on your knowledge of the sport, and you can earn a lot. Such numbers can not describe.

think it would be extremely difficult, if you look at something like mma fighting its probably impossible to be a longterm winner after vig

the pros sports betters probably pick up around 5% of profit from getting the best odds from different books
