just a chat I had with my husband the other day, I really hate it when big sporting company's place betting adverts on football games, (He has a past history of addiction but he manages to kill the urge ) he was watching a game a few days ago and he felt the need to bet, though I convinced him other wise he still has the urge now and then. how do you all feel about this there was a discussion on banning betting firms with those adverts (Here in the UK) at prime time football games

Some time ago in the News Section when it was announced the UK was trying to curb access to gambling, I took the opportunity to write some scathing posts about the reality of gambling in the UK.
In the first place successive UK governments themselves have for generations allowed a gambling culture to develop with impunity- I pointed out the staggering number of betting shops peppered into every corner of the UK.
I then linked to football and noted in the Premier League and Championship, the
majority of teams were sponsored by betting companies. Currently seventeen PL teams have betting company logos across their chests.
I then contrasted to the USA to point out advertising of any kind is not allowed on team jerseys- the NFL, NBA and MLB as the top pro sports are allowed to sport little but their teams logos and player number. The idea anyone would allow Tom Brady or LeBron James to play with Bet365 emblazoned on their shirts is laughable.
I have had arguments for years as to why betting and brewing companies (another favorite over the years in the UK) are allowed to advertise in this manner within sports. The counter argument is that if the Premier League allowed advertising on team jerseys in the first place, then you can't discriminate between a car company and a betting company. Fair enough. Except of course it begs the question why a global sport such as football, the most popular/lucrative in the world had to wring every penny of profit it could from such sponsorship.
Abject greed.
