With the majority of the fantasy season under our belt, I'd like to field suggestions for next year. Feel free to suggest anything, but a few things I'd consider are:

-Making QB's a slightly less important position.
-Making the draft 3-4 more rounds, and then cut down the rosters to the current 13 spots after week 2-3.
-Change the payouts to award top 3 in total regular season points.
-Add a flex spot.
-Make the draft pick order for next year depend on your finish in the current year. For example, the first pick is given to the 7th best team.

Questions? Thoughts? Comments?

I would change the QB TD/INT points back to standard scoring.

-6 for an INT is ridiculous, IMO. and +6 is a lot for a TD pass as well.

That would would make QB less important.

Drop the TE and K position. Add the flex player. Reduce the number of WRs, and increase the number of RBs. QB is fine. It is the most important player and should be point heavy. I agree, -6 for an interception is a bit excessive. Unless it results in a touchdown. But I don't think you can set it for that. Maybe -3 points would be good. Also having the trade deadline pushed a few weeks later would also be good.

Otherwise, it was fun . And a big thank you c9. I know there is alot of work setting this up and running it.

-6 for interceptions is so bad I probably would not play again if it was repeated lol. It needs to be -2, can't find anyone who plays in a league where it is anything other than -2.

Add a flex position.

4 on the bench is too tight - make it 5. Rosters of 14-15 are fine but no more than that for sure. I would not reduce the rosters to 13 after the season starts.

I am okay with your suggestion for draft pick order depending on the finish - but why 7th place to pick first instead of 12th picking first?

Paying top 3 is good.

Overall league was fun and I loved it!!

It gives you something to play for, even if you're eliminated from the playoffs. So if 12th place is rewarded, people would be tanking games. We want to make a system, where people are trying all the way through the season, not giving up.

Gotcha - that makes a lot of sense

Interceptions need to be -2.
5 on the bench is fine instead of 4.
2 RB, 2 W/R (instead of 3) and add a flex RB OR W/R to give more flexibility.
Max 12 in the league, like this year.
Pay top 3.
Thanks Sam for all the work looking after the league - great job this year!

I want to post a general comment: No league I host will ever have standard scoring. So we may get rid of the Interceptions -6 scoring, but it will only be replaced by some other wrinkle.

I originally placed this wrinkle in there to give other teams a fighting chance. New players tend to reach for QB's too early in a draft. Making that more correct (by placing more emphasis on the QB position) was one way I leveled the playing field.

I'm just not going to create a league where you can read rankings off your favorite website and have a shot at winning the league. I'd prefer to reward owners who are able to think outside the box.

That did not level the field at all for me as a new player. It gave a huge advantage to those with previous experience who realized the impact, knew they had to pick a qb early and knew the history of the qb's to know who would not be good with this set-up.

And btw - I find it very hard to believe anyone could ever win a league by reading rankings from their favorite website. :p

Not surprised at all that you and Cody finished 1st and 2nd hehe. You leveled the field alright!

(all said in jest) :)

You selected Phillip Rivers 15th overall with your 2nd round pick. Rivers, on average, was selected 25th overall. That's reaching for a QB. If you're saying you didn't realize the impact of making ints -6 points, you still lucked into taking the correct strategy.

Rivers was a fine selection, and his interception percentage historically has been 2.4%. This year it jumped up to 3.5%, the highest rate since he became a starter. He's also on pace to set a record for fumbles this year. So nothing in his previous career would suggest that his production would fall off so much. Its luck.

So if you're saying that rule didn't have the effect that I intended (making new players luck into the right strategy) then I'd say your draft was a picture perfect example of how the scoring system helped you by causing your strategy to be correct. I can't help it if lady luck got in the way.

Well other experienced fantasy league players - including Cody - said they would never have picked Phillip Rivers in this league the way it was set up. It is from their feedback that I reached that conclusion and I stand by it. :)

The most accurate experts had Rivers ranked 4th preseason, using scoring that does not penalize for interceptions. Therefore, the only reason to downgrade Rivers in our system would be because you think he'd turn the ball over more than players ranked below him.

Player - Career Interception Rate
Rodgers - 1.9%
Brady - 2.2%
Rivers - 2.4%
Ryan - 2.4%
Schaub - 2.5%
Brees - 2.7%
Romo - 2.8%
Vick - 2.9%

Rivers' interception rate of 2.4% was better than any QB on the board when it was your turn to pick. If people are saying they'd never pick Rivers in this format, they're lying. Hindsight is always 20/20. Given the information we had in August, Rivers was a fine pick. It just didn't work out.

I used this information before the draft to move Rodgers ahead of Vick on my draft board. I saw that Rodgers historically had the lowest interception percentage, even lower than Brady's after his 4 int MVP season in 2010. So I chose Rodgers with my first pick. I'm assuming Cody used the same sort of thought process when he selected Tom Brady as the 2nd QB off the board ahead of Vick as well.
