my thread is about the idiot on the Royals who slid into first base Hosmer...YOU NEVER EVER EVER EVER SLIDE INTO FIRST BASE...now the question comes up bunt or drop 3rd strike...maybe you plow the first baseman down ..which is why usually the first baseman is built like a linebacker...or at least your 3rd biggest guy on the team...the catcher being 2nd and pitchers usually being the tallest for obvious reasons...the longer the arm the more speed can be developed....many people have tried to stick up for Hosmer saying "he was acting out of instink t" or "maybe he was trying to get the ump to miss the call with his hand getting there before the ball....but anyway you look at it to stop and slide headfirst is NOT the fastest way to the bag even if your instincts say otherwise....maybe you remember your little league coach drilling this into you when you were a kid?
