it is difficult to tell who the best. I remember Sampras, later Federer, Nadal. for this reason it is good that Sharapova - few memorable persons in tennis has returned.

Roger Federer would be my pick for best ever but my favourite of all time would be Bjorn Borg.

For the ladies it’s a tie between Steffi Graf and Serena Williams.

Federer has the most grand slam titles ever for men , but he has a losing record to Nadal ! Granted, most of those losses were on clay , but how can you be the best ever if one of your contemporaries beats you more often than not ? I love Fed's graceful style ,his wonderful strokes , his class on court behavior , and his longevity , but I am not ready to call him the greatest of all time .

Serena Williams is far and away the best woman to ever play tennis ! I say that even though Steffi Graf was my favorite during her era . I don't like Serena's personality very much . To her credit , she has become more presentable this last year , but I cant forget her tirade against a linesperson at the US Open a while ago . No class at all .
