I don't know how many tennis fans are on here (I'm a huge fan), but the Aussie open is coming up soon so I figured I'd get a thread going. Soderling won the Brisbane Championship, Federer won the Qatar Open, Nadal lost to Davydenko at the Qatar Open. What are your predictions, who wins it this time?

Lol I dont care much about Youzhny but I totally agree with this last point.

My thinking about the open is that anybody outside of the top 8 doesnt have a shot in mens tennis. Del Potro is not back long enough to contend. Soderling is not there yet. Murray would need to go through a ton of competition to get there (seeing as he is now 5 and will likely play F or N in the 1/4s). Dok is not quite there these days. It comes down to, like it always has over these last few years, Federer or Nadal and it seems that for now, Federer is in a slightly better form.

Man I'm the biggest Federer fan but i voted for nadal in this one. eeech! i feel bad now

Marginal, I understand your point about Del Potro, but I've liked him for a long time, started following him more 2 years ago. The US open he won really showed his potential. Since then, injuries have kept him from getting back to that form, too bad really.

gonzalez i guess? (if he runs good)

edit: i guess gonzalez = soderling, just worse at the net

I hope Murray gets one this time. It's always fun seeing Federer and Nadal do battle, it's just becoming a bit predictable and boring a 2horse race all the time.

Well, here is my guess:Novak Djovokic The young Serbian has certainly come close this past year and even won the Australian Open title in 2008. In 2010, he not only made the semifinals of Wimbledon and the finals of the US Open, but helped Serbia clinch the Davis Cup title and won the China Open. Already this year, he has helped dominate the Hopman Cup, but had to withdraw because of fellow Serbian partner Ana lvanovic's injury. He is young, plays extremely well on hard surfaces and is primed to dominate.

I don't care how unattractive Murray is, i'd like to see him win one. I think he's due. If he doesn't win in Australia i really think the US Open will be his this time. He does need to maintain a proper level of aggression in his game though and not just resort to getting it back and waiting for the mistake which can make him tedious to watch at times.

In the past week I've seen a bunch of Aussie Open classics. What great matches. Last years' alone had 2 amazing all-time matches, Nadal vs Verdasco semi and Nadal vs Fed final. Sunday can't come fast enough.

Watching kubot vs querrey right now. Sick. Love watching querrey play, but his forehand is nothing impressive right now.

I am not a big tennis fan but I do enjoy watching a good match every now and then. Nadal lost in straight sets so his bid to win four straight Grand Slam tournaments is over.
