Alexis Sanchez looks set to miss the start of the Premier League season after his chile side endured extra-time in the Copa America final before eventually overcoming argentina in a penalty shoot-out.

Arsene Wenger was concerned that Alexis wouldn't be ready to start the season if Chile went a long way in the tournament, which has proved to be the case.

Arsenal have announced a 27-man squad that will be travelling to Singapore for the Barclays Asia Trophy.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky will sit out during the tour due to injuries, while the likes of Alexis Sanchez and David Ospina have been given rest to recuperate from their exertions in the Copa America, which concluded on 4 July

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has paid tribute to Abou Diaby after the French midfielder was officially released by Arsenal.

“Abou’s a massive talent,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal Player. “He’s one of the best midfielders I’ve seen or even played with and, for a man of his stature and to be able to do some of the things he did with the ball, it was amazing to see at times.

“Unfortunately he had a really tough time with injuries and you’ve got to feel for him because he worked so hard.

Ospina is going to have a tough competition with Peter Cech, both are excellent goalkeepers but i prefer Ospina. They will play eventually because of the many cups in England.

What's a realistic aim for you guys this season?

Do you think the existing squad is strong enough to challenge with only Cech coming in?

As the squad stands right now top two.. If we add two more quality signings (DM & Striker) then we will challenge for first.

So Steve, do you think the Gooners will win the Premiership this season and if so, do you think this will be on the basis that at last you have a world class keeper to rely on to save you those extra valuable points that you keep losing?

Signing Cech is not enough but it does improve us and if we can stay serious injury free we have a chance ... But in my opinion we are still two players short.. DM & Striker

Karim Benzema may be coming to the Emirates

French forward Karim Benzema is reportedly open to the possibility of leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the 27-year-old, although as it stands, there has been no official offer from the Emirates.

Benzema has been with Los Blancos since 2009 – scoring 133 goals in 281 matches, including 22 in all competitions last season

Arsene Wenger has admitted that the thought of retiring makes him panic as he closes in on 19 years in charge of Arsenal.

The Frenchman is the longest-serving manager in the Premier League by over 15 years, but he claims that he finds it tough to consider bringing his time in North London to an end.

An Olivier Giroud strike and a Damien Delaney own goal guided Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. So our season is up and running after last week's defeat. Next up is Liverpool
