Tonight is the night...the playoffs are back! The wild card play in games are tonight, should provide a lot of drama. I hope the Orioles and Braves win. Once the divisional round starts up, I will be rooting for my favorite team to take home the title belt...

GO REDS!!

Wow! Crowd trouble at Turner Field???

Braves have - unfortunately - blown this one with too many errors and too many LOB....shame after a good season.

Chipper's last game and - again unfortunately - not a good one for him.

But the end of a fantastic career!!

you have to admit the call was made late and for a ball too far outfeild for its purpose/intent.......bad call or stratigically placed paid off ref?.....either way.....sad for braves.

Like somebody said above, Braves had to many errors and left to many on base. Terrible call though. Plus, I really dislike St Louis. Glad to see the O's win tonight.

From here on out....GO REDS!

I wonder if the Umpire didn't call the infield fly and the cardinals managed a double play if everyone would be crabbing the other way.

The rule is desgned to protect the offense, in this case the Braves.

It was not a bad call, and IS NOT arguable due to it being a JUDGEMENT call. Judgement calls can not be overturned or every frigging strike call would be a ten minute quarrel.

And, I'll tyell you what is "sad for the Braves" is their fans assinine behavior. From now on they should chant Waaa-Waawaaawaaa.

If the Orioles and Cards make it to the World Series it would be a replay of the Street Car series of 1944, Cards vs. Browns (who became the Orioles). That would be cool.

I'm kind of hoping the visiting team wins every game in the playoffs.... only because that means the O's will win the World Series.

It kind of sucks that the Orioles and Yankess play each other in the next round, since prior to this year two teams in the same division would never have faced each other before the League Championship Series. Hopefully that series will be close - at least the Orioles didn't appear to be in awe of the Yankees during the regular season - in stark contrast to the last decade of games.

Regarding the infield fly call in the Braves-Cardinals game, it wasn't a terrible call at all. The rule is there to protect the offense, although in this case there was little chance of intentionally dropping the call and turning a double play. Perhaps the rule should be changed to exclude infielder fly calls beyond some arbitrary distance away. It certainly didn't cost the Braves the game - bad defense and lack of timely hitting did them in. You gotta play better than that, particularly in front of the home crowd.

Agreed - the fans behavior was inexcusable. Sad way for Chipper's last game to end.

Trash throwing Braves fans demeaned themselves and their team. Bad call or not, whomever threw that bottle should have been arrested.

along wit the third base umpire..:D. I'm sure if they knew who threw it, they'd been cuffed and stuffed.

It is never a good idea to put your closer out there in a tie game. Buck should have played it like an extra inning game and gone with someone else. In my opinion, that was a managing blunder, especially given Johnson's poor inning against Texas (3 base runners in a single inning - also not a save situation)

Johnson has been money all year. You have a better pitcher to put out there?

Not to mention Johnson used to be a starting pitcher, so he can pitch 2-3 innings easily in the event it goes into extras.

I agree.

Johnson has been the guy in that bullpen. The game was tied going into the 9th, so there is no chance of a save opportunity. Just didn't work out.

Johnson has started exactly one game in his career, his very first appearance in the majors in 2006. In that game he only lasted 3 innings.

This year in 71 appearances, he threw more than one inning exactly twice, both 2 innings and both by June 5th. Putting him out there in that situation is NOT what got the Orioles to the post-season. In my opinion it wasn't the right move - disagree all you want - the A's did the same thing and Balfour gave up a run in a losing effort. Closers have a mental approach that just doesn't always translate very well to non-save situations. The "entire" bullpen performed well throughout the year, having their best team bullbpen ERA in 20 years.

The good news is that it was just one game. The bad news is that the heart of the order looked really bad, albeit against a good pitcher (Jeter and Ichiro will take what the pitcher gives them and doesn't try to do too much - the O's big bats have to do the same). But another veteran pitcher who's thrown well against the O's is going again tonight. If they can't get anything going against Pettite, this series may be over just as it's getting started.

With Jeter out for the rest of the playoffs the Yankees have to win the next game or they are finished. They will win, convincingly.

omg when the incident occured I'm like "was that a cute little oops smile there for tripping" ....replay made clear that Jeter was in severe pain. I don't like the Yankees but I don't like seeing an athlete get hurt.

that said......gooooooooo D's

Complete meltdown by the Reds after coming back home needing just 1 win in 3 games! I cannot believe they just gave Crusty Faker a 2-year extension instead of firing him immediately after another POOR post-season.
I think the Reds players showed a lot of heart and resiliency in the series, I just cannot root for them when they have a manager like Marty Shittenheimer who did great in the regular season, and AWFUL in the post-season when it really matters.
