OJ Simpson and Pete Rose.
Okay, really what Pete did was not that horrible and OJ was never convicted of murder, but both were surely guilty.
Pete is just an egomaniac that thought he was above the rules.
OJ is just plain scum of the earth.
Man could they play their respective games though and as a child I idolized both in their prime.
Charlie Hustle just flat out played baseball, he reminds me of Ty Cobb in that reckless abandon all hells bells kind of way.
Give the Juice some daylight and he made you pay! He was fun to watch in his heyday.
I learned my lesson though about them both and my idol statues were destroyed as an adult. The balloon was popped.
That is a lesson for us to teach our kids, you can appreciate how they play, but don't put them on pedestals, they are after all somewhat human in hindsight.
I found myself doing this with a few other athletes, like MJ and Tiger, but realized they, too, had some bad habits in their personal life that were not to be emulated. I was more of an adult though at that time so my idolizing days were already shot down by then.
