If your getting just 17 second imports then this points to one of four possibilities. (1) Your using a 5400 RPM hard drive, this drive speed is not recommended, we only officially support 7200RPM drives and SSD drives. With that said, importing times will be slower but our software is still very usable with a 5400 RPM drive. (2) You may be a tournament player with lots of Tournament Summaries to import. We cannot predict the time with summaries, hence they can provide a false estimate of time. (3) Some poker rooms are just really slow to import hands, for example Full Tilt is slower than PokerStars, and Microgaming is the slowest of all due to their use of an old database format for hand histories. (4) You may have done damage to your database accidentally by force-quitting during import. Here are some tricks that can help:

Click Database > Database Management. Click Rebuild Cache. This could be necessary if you force-quit during an import while PT4 was updating the cache
If you are manually importing for a folder, separate the hands into more managable groups of 5-10 thousand hands at a time. The more files that are located in the folder, the slower import will be due to the way the operating system accounts for file management.
That error occurs because the hand is incomplete, we cannot import it, this problem is caused by your Merge poker client and cannot be avoided, the error can be ignored because there isn't anything you can do to change this behavior, its the downside to playing on Merge. But why did this make you want to stop import? It shouldn't have been a factor... Back on topic, force quitting with the task manager during import is not advised. What you thought was a freeze was actually PokerTracker 4 waiting for PostgreSQL to finish processing your data. Please rebuild your cache before proceeding, this should help improve your performance once again.
